BIG Problem, car won't start.

I've got a big problem. I got in a front end accident the other day and killed my radiator. I was only a short distance from home so I risked driving it but it died like 100 yards short of my driveway. I got the car started once since then but when I try to start it now, white smoke comes out through the busted radiator hose and it won't turn over. My mechanic said the engine is blown (ie. head gasket) and to pretty much get rid of it. Does this sound right? How costly is it to replace something like that? I'd appreciate any help.

if you can do it yourself, it would be worth fixing. But you might have other damaged stuff to :\ Depends on how many miles your engine has and how good of condition your car is in.

You could always pick up another whole engine and put it in there for pretty cheap.
