Accelerator sensitivity problem

I have a new RAV4 XT3 Petrol and am finding the electronic throttle control very difficult to use at low revs. The slightest depression of the pedal brings the revs up to 2000 so that I end up slipping the clutch much more than should be necessary. I understand that the pedal controls a logarithmic potentiometer and it feels to me as if it is wired back to front resulting in a sudden increase in resistance as the pedal begins its rotation.
There also seems to be quite a time delay between pressing the pedal and anything happening - thus making it even more awkward to control
The dealer has had a look at it via the diagnostics connection and tells me that it is OK but I'm not convinced that this would show up as a fault on the diagnostics because I can't see how it detects just how much the throttle pedal is depressed.
Before purchasing the car I had two 2 hour test drives on different RAV4s and didn't experience this problem at all. Can anyone suggest how I can resolve this problem?
Thanks
