tranny grinding, clutch problem ?

i recently got a 90 teg, and after the car warms up or i rev hard in 1st gear it'll grind into 2nd gear, sometimes happens from 3rd to 4th as well. i thought it was my tranny. but then i asked a few people that have more knowledge than i and they all told me it's the clutch, and that it needs to be adjusted because it's not disengaging properly. so i've gone around searching for info but i only find the same info telling me to 'adjust the clutch', finally my question is, how exactly do i 'adjust the clutch' ? should i change my clutch ? or can i fix the current one ?

you can only adjust you clutch if it is a cable clutch and not hydrolic, i am not sure about your make, does it take dot 3 or 4 fluid than it is a hydrolic clutch

sounds to me likek you need to replace the clutch, and throwout bearing, also resurface the flywheel.

Try bleeding the clutch line. If its hydrolic you CAN adjust the height of it, under the pedal theres a nut, turn the nut and move the clutch pedal, down or up then tighten the nut.

2nd gens have a cable clutch NOT hydraulic. first of all check the pedal height it should be about 7 inches off the floor. no push the pedal in with you hand it should move about 3/4 of an inch before it starts disengageing. now move around and pop the hood. look for an arm coing out of your tranny with a cable attached to it. this arm should only have like an 1/8 of an inch of freeplay in it.

ok now if any of those adjustments are off there is a plastic nut on the cable I mentioned earlier right above where it hooks into that arm. turn it until all the numbers match up to the ones I said.

If the clutch won't adjust or if you can't get the numbers to match up then you may need a new clutch. chances are you do anyway... a worn slipping clutch can be adjusted, sounds to me your release forks or throw out bearing is bad in which case adjusting will do nothing.

summary: I think these numbers are correct (at least they are for Mine) I highly recomend buying a manual that will tell you the exact numbers for your specific year as the wrong adjustment will screw stuff up.

Pedal Height~ 7"
Pedal Freeplay~ 3/4"
Cable freeplay~ 1/8"

edit: actually I have a manual around here somewhere give me the day and I'll post up the exact numbers tonight.
