I have a 1990 300zx N/A automatic. I know it sux but i got a deal.
it has a stillen exaust with the stock cats and headers.

at about 3,500 rpms there is a real loud like clangy sound. it sounds like someone is takin a hammer and beating the side of my mufflers. i took it to a shop and they said that it could be thats just how the engine sounds or they said u could have a bad cat or i good have a bad muffler. u guys have any ideas or similar problems? i have a feeling that that is just the way the exhaust sounds or maybe i have a bad cat.

second question. does anyone have an automatic z non turbo. when i floor my z off start my car jumps liek it should off the start but then it kinda like gives up about 1500 rpms but then it picks up again right away. its almost like its not gettin enough fuel for a moment and it wants to shutdown.

ill take all the help that is given. thanks in advance

It's a 90... N'uff said.

1990 Zed's were the problem Z32's, I had a '90 automatic, and got rid of it.

Slushbox's tend to go very quickly in Zed's, and 90's EFI Connectors, vaccum/water lines and Fuel lines tend to corrode to unrecognition.

I would suggest (if you can) while it is still in good running order. Replace all of the PCVs, vaccum lines, gas lines, water lines, fuses, etc. To ensure that your car will run good. Little things like that caused my first Zed to basically destroy itself...

Just a though.

First off.... why do you think your '90 NA sucks? I have '90 2+2 and can beat tons of cars on the streets and have beat a few on the 'touge'.... watch your mouth! That's blasphemy!

Clanging noise??? Sounds like your cat imploded! Fix it!!!

Hesitation? Your tranny may have seen better days! It's always a good idea to service it if not overhaul it and rebuild. Does it only hesitate when you launch? Could be you are not getting enough fuel... check your fuel-filter!

by the way my 90 runs great for a 14 year old car. im sure as long as u keep check on it and keep things updated you wont have any more problems than any other car. but i cant say that right now. i have only had a about 8 months

How'd you get a sponsorship? Always thought I had an idea of how that worked, but wasn't too sure...

i actually asked in one of the posts floating around and i went to www.needsponsors.com and filled out the app. But I got a voicmail saying something about 12k and blah blah, and its for sport compact pro, thats the sponsor. Give it a wing. I told them in the app that I thought I would be best due to rare cars aren't given enough credit and too many civics and such are out there and its the easiest thing to make look good, when Rare car owners learn to appreciate the inability to replace their car. and so on....give it a shot, can't hurt, I only filled out one app. and Id say its been a month since i heard from them and it turned out for the best.

I'll give it a whirl...might as well. Use the money to fix the Z31 up...I've NEVER, IN ANY MAJOR PERFORMANCE MAGAZINE OUT THERE, SEEN A Z31...that would be awesome. It'd be great to see an old school Z out there, ya know? Saw one Z31T on a website that was running 8s with a full interior!!! We need some more of those!!!

I already did it all. I'd probably give my right nut for a sponsorship. If I got one...you wait to see what I'll turn this Z31 into. It'll blow everyone's mind...and I'll do it as if I was still trying to conserve money. I've always dreamed of having a bad ass car and going to car shows and what not...which is exactly what they want. It would be a blast. Thanks for the link, man...and wish me luck! --<Fingers crossed>--

Yea man...that would be the best thing ever. I think I'd probably shit myself too. I think I worded everything pretty well...but everything I said is true...they asked for a list of future planned mods, and I listed all the stuff I ACTUALLY plan to do to it. I'm not blowing smoke up their ass or anything. I hope they realize that and realize that I'm not just some punk kid or something out trying to get a free ride...I think I know my shit reasonably well and would make good use of it. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to find out...see you out there...I hope!

Oh belive me...everyone will know if I get it. I'll be friggin ecstatic. I just don't know if my car is new enough or in good enough condition for them. This kind of doesn't make sense...of course it's not perfect now...A) that's why I bought it, and B) I just got it 3 days ago...but I wouldn't be surprised if this is what I get. That would be kind of like getting turned down everywhere you go for a job due to lack of experience...you have to start somewhere.
