I was busting his balls saying what a redneck he is with his primer Camaro and the mighty can of Bud beer in his hand. So we decided to take the Redneck Chevy pic but it ended up being more like Chevy Gayness but it's still funny so I posted it LoL

I would really recommend pullin the handles, lights, locks, (even windshield if possible) Off before you paint it.. It doesnt take long and youl be able to do a much better job..
When I painted mine, Every thing that was bolted or glued on to the body was taken off and painted sepratly

i wasnt worried about getting paint on the glass.. Its very easy to tell when something (like a windshield) has been painted around.. doesnt look good.. Also, most vehicles (especially older camaros) are bad for developing rust under the shield where you cant see it, both of the camaros I painted had it..

Guys this is like the 10th car I have painted in my garage and I've done a million wings and body kits. I use to do this for a living. I know about dirt and prep work etc.., etc.., So maybe this will ease some of your worries.
I don't paint the cars with the door open(dur) my garage is very clean and I have a industrial paint booth ventilation fan set-up in my garage(bought from my old boss). I wet down the floors before painting just in case. I've never had a problem with dirt before there.
As far as the taping you see in the pics we stopped there for the day. You'll see in the next batch of pictures the rest of the car that needs to be taped off, is and prep paper(the brown paper) is used to cover all the glass. As far as the door locks and handle the previous owner had already painted over them so we are painting them to at least match the body color we are going with now. As far as taking the windshield out... that is the nuttiest thing I have ever heard.
This is just a quick nice job done for a friend who doesn't want to spend a ton of cash(free labor) and just wants it to look overall nice. If you want to see a job where lots and lots of attention and hours is put into it then goto my gallery and see the pics of my Mustang project.

And yes gstang it looks good..........I had my camaro painted last summer to black (obviously) lol anyways, it's totally dull I don't even think the guy took his time to do it right...........he added glitter into my clear coat to make it sparkle, and that looks good, but my car has no glossy look to it like you see on a normal black camaro.........It looks like a nasty black not a shiny i want u black....know what I mean? He totallysucked.........anyways i'm takin it bak this summer and he said he'd wet sand the whole car again and try and gloss it up....Do you think that's the right thing to do?...........Also i have tons of scratches from jealous bitches down at school.......keyscratches and all now i'll have to have them buffed out!

The color is a GM factory color called Black Cherry the only production cars I know of for sure they use it on was the 94-96(not sure the years)Impala SS's with the LT-1 in it. GM has also used it in some of thier concept vehicles. It's GM's flagship color and unique to them. It's a very nice color looks black in the shadows but is a nice deep red-ish purple in the light with a good amount of metallics.
No it's not waxed most new paint jobs should look ultra shiny when done. It will dull a bit but not a ton should stay about that shine for a while if I did my job right. lol Also new paintjobs really should not be waxed or pressure washed for almost a month.
I will be happy to give advice to someone who wants to paint. One thing I will say right off the bat is if you think your gonna save $$$ your probably not. There is a large initial investment in the basic tools needed to paint a car. Quick example, Compressor $300-400, Spraygun(don't even think bout the $50 one's think more like $250 and up), DA $40, Filter system $40. These are just the bare essentials and most of the prices are for the cheapest but dealable way out. Then also there is the fact of no matter how much advice I give you.... you will make mistakes cause it's a learning process and car paint isn't cheap so that can add up also. There is more also.... I don't say this to scare you away from it.... but so you have a better idea of what you might be getting into.
Camarochick was your car dull when you first got it back or did this happen slowly over time?

what kinda paint did you use??
I use only PPG, Omni(cheaper PPG brand), and House of Kolor paint.
This Camaro was painted with Omni 1-stage paint
Which brings us to another lesson on automotive paints. Today there are two main types of paint. Single Stage and 2-stage paint.
Single Stage paint is just as the name implies. The basecoat(color) and the Clear coat are all mixed and sprayed at the same time. This has some positive things and negative things. Single-stage paint is usually a lot cheaper this color was $74 a gallon(no Reactive Reducer or Clearcoat hardner) this same color in 2-stage the basecoat probably cost about $250 or more for a gallon(no Reactive Reducer or Clearcoat hardner) plus you need to buy clearcoat seperate add another $200. So there is a large price difference. But there are large pitfalls to using a 1-stage paint. First 1-stage even done by a very skillful painter will never look as good as the same thing done in 2-stage. 1-stage is a lot less forgiving to mistakes and mistakes are not fixed as easily. Also 1-stage tends to have a lot of orange peel. This is not to say a very nice looking paint job can't be done. Finally the clearcoat on a 1-stage tends to be rather thin so the amount you can work the clearcoat is not much.
2-stage obviously is when the basecoat is sprayed and then the clearcoat is sprayed seperate. This is how all new cars and cars made in the last 15+ years have been sprayed by the factories. It tends to give superior results when compared to one-stage. Fixing mistakes made during the painting process is a lot easier. Spraying the clearcoat seperate you have more control over orange peel and the coats. Also the ability to sand and buff the clearcoat is much larger and less risky.
Camarochick as far as wetsanding the clearcoat and then powerbuffing it would totally be the way to go. After painting one of my cars I wait a week so everything dries and then wet sand it with 2000grit till it's dull. This gets rid of all orange peel and uneveness of clearcoat. Then powerbuff it to a high gloss. That's how they get that always looks wet car show paint job.
The problem I would have with doing it with yours is that it's black. I try to spray black car's clearcoat perfect because I don't want to wetsand the clearcoat. Because black shows even the smallest scratches. Think 2000grit wet sand is polishing not sanding something and after doing it and power buffing it on a black car I can still see some of the swirls/scratches when on any other color I wouldn't. Maybe the glitter he added in your intercoat will help to kill some of blacks natural ability to show fuck-ups. If he is doing it for free I say let him, he might make it look better/he might make it look worse. but your not really losing anything cause if he makes it worse you just need to get it repainted like your thinking now. So it's worth a shot right?

Like the day i got it i saw it.......I'm def. taking it bak next month and he should be wetsanding for free....i think i only have to pay him to repaint the front, (cuz i rearended my mom) and he has to repaint my passenger side door, bcuz paint is already peelin off and showing the green color my car used to be!.......Besides that he's just gotta buff out some keyscratches and all............hopefully it'll look right this time!

Well if it was dull less than a week after it was done I would seriously consider not paying him to do any more work. Whatever they will do for free let them but I would not drop another dime to them cause dull and peeling are all signs of a lousy job.
