check engine light!

my 97 malibu's check engine light comes on intermittently. It came up with an Oxygen sensor code. I changed the pre cat sensor since I am pretty sure it is the original sensor from the factory.

now the check engine light is back on again.

Do I need to get ahold of a computer and clear the codes out? Or did I not solve the problem?

If you are sure that the sensor you replaced was the problem then you are on the right track. Most newer computers will maintain an error code until cleared by the dealer. This allows for the dealer to pull any codes along with time/date and conditions at the time of appearance for their quality trending and troubleshooting ease. You should be all set once the ECM is cleared. As to how to do it on the malibu I cannot help you there.
Hope this helps

regards,
Jim
