My mother has a 97 Eclipse RS and I was wonderign is it normal for those engine to hesitate for a sec when you mash the throttle before it actually decides to get up and going?
I can actually mash the throttle to the floor and for 1-2 se the car hesitates before the tranny downshifts and start to roar. It seems to get up and goign better if im rolling at say 10-15MPH than mash it and then it starts roarin. Im thinkin its more of the tranny being lazy the engine. I checked out the motor and see nothing wrong. Theres no leak from air-box to intake manifold. The TB has no slack on the cable and it opens all the way. Air-filter is good. Its a automatic but havent seen a automatic hesistate as much as this car. If I modulate the throttle some I can get it to shift and roar. When the car actually shifts from a 10MPH roll when I mash it, it actualyl gets up and going pretty good.
She took her car in last week because I looked at her car and the fluids needed changing, excpecially her tranny fluid, the shit was brown. She got it back from the dealership mechanic and the car was not 100% it would be under-powered (as much as a RS can be). So i looked and the fuckin mechanic didnt put the tube that conects from the airbox to the intake manifold back on. The thing was just laying there on the engine only connected by the little sensor that comes out from it. I took it back to the dealership she took it to and told them of this fuck up and found out the guy was fired because he was fuckin other customers cars up.
so is this hesitation normal for the RS? The only mods I think the car has at all is exhaust but I think the only part thats not stock is the muffler to tip cause the rest of it looks OEM. The springs seem a bit to stiff to be OEM unless these cars came from factry with stiff springs. You hit any imperfection in the road and you can feel & hear it.

it sound like normal the hesitation is it figuring out whether to downshift out of overdrive. try turning off overdrive and see if it still does it

I dont drive it with OD. I turn it off. I fanally got my mother to do it now since i showed her its quicker without off and to only use it on highway/freeway. She just dont like it off cause the OD Off light comes on a it confuses her \, she thinks something is wrong. No it still hesistates with it off but it does make it a bit quicker with it off but still hesitates. It could be normal, just never drove are car with so much hesistation. Her other car is Jeep Cheerokee and that thing doesnt hesistate at all but I think thats cause its got more power. As long as you ar going 15-20MPH there isnt any hesitiation it just jerks and goes but if your going say 45MPH and mash the throttle it doesnt want to go.

I think with some tuning the hesitiation would be gone. Just dont think its worth putting the money into a RS to dyno tune it.

taking off in a rs from idle shouldnt be any different from taking off in a turbo at idle if anything the rs should do better cuz theres no restriction from the ic. from idle the turbo isnt boosting so its just a non tubo with a lot of extra intake piping

You should of got a manual, no hesitation at all from any speed. Plus its lighter, more gears to put the power thru, and it doesnt eat torque to operate.

Well that doesn't really help him does it? It's his mom's car... I don't think she is worried about getting the most power out of her car. If so, she could have bought a GST.
