Does anyone have any experience replacing the steering rack on the Aurora? And if so where did you purchase your replacement at and how much was it. How hard was it to do? Alldata says a dealer would charge for 2.6 hours for labor and it looks pretty straight forward according to my FSM. Anyone have any experience with it?

Did it to mine (95 Aurora) after dealer tests said it was bad. Dealer tests were in error! Solved problem (too much effort at idle type parking lot speeds) by replacing power steering pump. Now have rack w/23k for sale! New one cost $850+.
$175.00 + shipping/boxing. 360-697-7816

Im positive that it is my rack becasue Ive got power steering when turning right but nothing when going left. If it was the pump or the magna steer I wouldnt have power steering in either direction. How long did it take you to do it? Ive been waiting for the long labor day weekend to do it so Ill have some extra time incase anything goes wrong.

It took 2 of us most of a day. We were both very auto savy but inexperienced for this project. To do it again -yes; having no experience, I would not have second thoughts about paying for 2.6 professional hours!
Example: Four jack stands are necessary as you must drop complete exhaust system from engine to rear bumper. There is much more but I remember one of the most frustrating parts was getting a rubber boot back over the input coupling at the rack.
Note that the "spare" one I have is absolutly like new!
I am in WA - where are you?

The problem with letting the dealer do it for the 2.6 hours is that they also want to use the dealer priced part. Ive already purchased a rebult rack with a life time warranty so I dont need yours, sorry. Looks like Ill be having lots of fun next weekend.

It would be interesting to hear from you and your experience in replacing this part.

Ill give a full report next weekend after Im finished!:) Seems like every long weekend I get I end up under a car somewhere fixing something! During my 4 day 4th of July weekend I replaced the manual tranny in my 93 Nissan Altima work car and while I had it out replaced the rear main oil seal, clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. Now that was FUN! Ive replaced a few RWD transmissions in my days but that was the first FWD.
