help! w/console trim

I found replacement wood trim for the center console of my '95. Can anyone tell me how to take apart the center console to change the trim? (electronics shop broke the original and tore the cowl cover - I DON'T want to take it back there for them to do the work). Thanks!

If you're getting it from that replacementwoodtrim.com or whatever that site that was mentioned, I'd ask them if they have instructions. They would be the experts.

I'll check when I get home, but I don't think the volume of the service manual I have at the moment has that in it.

its not that hard, you just have a lot of steps, first you'll notice a staple looking thing behind your shifter, pull that out with a pair of needle nose plyers. then you'll see the scres where the ash tray is take them out, then take the screws out of the cup holders (when opened) also you have screws in the center console take them out, now you have more but I can't remember all of them so you'll just have to observe and dont force anything, if it doesn't come out easily after you took a bunch of screws out then there is something holding it. what I told you should get you the majority of the screws I think there might be some nuts and bolts. anyway what happened to your center trim thatyou have to replace it.

Thanks! Appreciate the help. I found the wood trim piece on another forum - woman in Tennessee who is parting our hers (can't recall the year). Trim was broken by an electronics shop when they (failed) to find what was causing tach & speedometer dance. Y'all helped me pin it down and another small, local shop fixed the instrument panel problem with an additional ground between airconditioning system and ECM. I'll ask Brandy to post on this forum, too, if she has parts left. We've been communicating by personal e-mail.

My tip-o-the-month: Take dated, close-up photos of your car's interior & exterior before taking it to a shop. I didn't, and have no proof that my Aurora's interior was pristine before the shop techs ham-handed it. Been my experience that even when you win in small claims court, it's impossible to collect - so not worth the cost and time to pursue it. I've encountered another problem with replacement. When the seller tried to remove the wood trim, she found that it's factory-glued (or something) to the console side pieces and cupholder. Any suggestions?

it shouldnt' be I 've never encountered that. unless your talking about the actual wood piece not the whole unit the wood trim is connected then yeah thats glued on there, what you can do is check with your old one. when your taking your old one out you'll learn a few things, like mistakes you make taking it out you won't make putting the new one it. Just take your time doing it try not to rush it. Im sure you'll be fine.
