Cruise Control and Torque Converter connection

Hi, This is my first entry. I bought a 95 Aurora fro ma used car dealer about 6-weeks ago. Finally, it seems like stuff stopped breaking. I had an A/C compressor crash about 4 weeks ago. but that is another story.

A day later, the cruise control quit working. I noticed that the at the same time, the torque converter quit locking.

I had a similar problem with my 92 Bonneville SSEI. If the torque coverter locked, the cruise worked. Intermittantly it did not lock.

In the Aurora, I get a "Service Engine Sooon" light once I reach 45-mph while not excellerating. I assume that this indicates the computer is trying to lock the torque converter.

Any ideas?

By the way, you guys are great. Your ideas and comments have made fixing stuff on this car much easier.

I would think the first step would be to get it scanned and make sure what the SES light is. As I posted a bit ago, you might be able to get this done for free at a transmission shop.

There could be a lot of things making your cruise not work. Vacuum could be the culprit. Or, like me, you could have issues with your multifunction switch or steering column. Mine works fine, but there seems to be a short somewhere because my cc shuts off when I either turn on the turn signal or change lanes. It doesn't seem to be either one exclusively, and it only happens every once in a while.
