Well, since Le Mans begins in less than 12 hours, I figured I'd finally post some images of my "almost" complete LM and sportscar racers.
So enjoy! and thanks for looking,
Bill
Tamiya 1:24th Mobil 1 Porsche GT1.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-08.jpg
Built basically box stock with little effort to engine/chassis detailing, most of the time was spent on the external surfaces.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-01.jpg
Scale Motor Sport CF decals were used (where necessary) in conjunction with Tamiya's stock decals. All over a basecoat of Tamiya TS-26 Pure White that was rubbed out using Meguier's products with a final overcoat (including decals and glass) of Turtle Wax Ultimate Carnuba wax.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-02.jpg
Tamiya X-18 acylic paint was used on the underchassis and the recommended mixture used on the mirrors.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-03.jpg
Exhaust pipes were replaced with K&S Engineering aluminum tubing grafted onto the stock headers. Wheels were painted Model Master's Non-Buffing Brass with scratchbuilt wire locking rings painted Testor's Guard's Red.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-04.jpg
A combination of SMS and Scale Race Cars (SRC) photoetched details were used on the wing supports and end plates. Mirror faces are polished K&S aluminum sheet.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-05.jpg
Body release latches are from a recent sheet of SRC body latches (SRC109) with washers from SRC108.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-06.jpg
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/96mobilegt1-07.jpg
All in all, a beautiful kit and just a few more pieces to finish her off!
Hope you all enjoyed and if you have any questions...please feel free!
Thanks,
Bill

Next up is the Tamiya 1:24th in Scale Motor Sports Waresteiner/Mobil 1 Carbon Fiber replicating the test mule that was debuted at Le Mans qualifying.
The kit requires that you paint the entire body semi-gloss black (Model Master's Black Chrome enamel), except for the driver's door and coat the completed decaled body with Testor's Semi-Gloss laquer shot from an Aztek A470 using the "white" tip at 15 psi.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule06.jpg
It was painted gloss white (TS-26) and left bare. Also the number lights were removed and the lower running lights covered by gluing down the glass covers, fairing them in with 3M Piranha Putty and painted/decaling over them.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule02.jpg
Once again, K&S supplied the new exhaust pipes and there was a little more detail painting on the transaxle-catch can area and the wing enplates were made from K&S flat sheet aluminum .
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule03.jpg
The "passenger" side shows the CF covered door and the beer livery.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule04.jpg
If you've ever had a problem with decals, esp. SMS's type, doing this kit WILL make you better!
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule01.jpg
If Darth Vader raced, this is what his car would look like.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/sms-96-cf-mule07.jpg
SMS has given us an incredible decal kit and it makes one beautiful model. This one will have the external body latches added soon and both this and the white GT1 will have their fuel inlets replaced with Renaissance PE parts.
Hope you all enjoyed and if you have any questions...please feel free!
Thanks,
Bill

This is Perry's Resin MOMO 333sp. The 333sp was built to compete specifically in the World Sports Car class of IMSA, and while it DID run at Le Mans, ACO regulations conspired to make it uncompetitive and it never won at Le Sarthe.
This is a multi-media kit including resin and white metal parts with a semi-detailed engine.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/momo-333sp-02.jpg
The color is Tamiya TS-08 that was rubbed out using Meguier's products with a final overcoat (including decals and glass) of Turtle Wax Ultimate Carnuba wax, with a chassis mix of MM Black Chrome and non-buffing brass (75%-25%) to give the illusion of CF. The Goodyear's on the tires are dry transfers from Shabo and the decals are Umi with MM non-buffing aluminum covering the 5 spokes of the wheels.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/momo-333sp-01.jpg
The wheels will soon have seperate nuts (cast from resin by me) and aluminum tubing spindles over the white metal brembo brakes and the tub will be recovered in SMS kevlar decals. I'm in the process of scratchbuilding the rollbar tubes out of...what else, K&S aluminum tubing!
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/momo-333sp-03.jpg
When this kit first came out I jumped and bought it ASAP...and I still feel giddy when I see it.
Hope you all enjoyed and if you have any questions...please feel free!
Thanks,
Bill

Revell's C5R depicts DE's first and last endurance race ride.
The color is Tamiya Chrome Yellow over a semi-gloss chassis, that was rubbed out using Meguier's products with a final overcoat (including decals and glass) of Turtle Wax Ultimate Carnuba wax.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/DE-c5r-05.jpg
Wheels came from a "dead" Revell '97 Mobil 1 Evo Porsche GT and once again the yellow Goodyears are Shabo dry transfer decals.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/DE-c5r-04.jpg
Since this was one of Dale's last ride, I decided to go a little nuts on the body (the engine is just painted silver and I consider this a curbside). I opened up all the engine cover louvers and added the support brace (using a pin) and the NACA ducts on the top of the rear fenders were thinned to scale thickness.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/DE-c5r-03.jpg
The front splitter was molded to the "hood" and it's in the process of having it's large attaching bolts/panhead screws attached. These and the other PE elemets came from SMS.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/DE-c5r-02.jpg
The wing endplates (while not currently attached) are made of sheet styrene, the exhaust plates are Bare Metal Foil (with new "rivets" to come from a SRC PE sheet) and the body latches will soon be installed (also from SRC).
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/DE-c5r-01.jpg
Bare Metal Foil also covers the Gurney flap of the rear wing, the brakes are also from the Revell 97 Evo kit and last but not least, the front wheels were modified to allow them to turn.
At the IPMS Nationals in Dallas, TX. I had the opportunity to view a test shot of this mold at the Revell booth.
Hope you all enjoyed and if you have any questions...please feel free!
Thanks,
Bill

...and last but not least and just to prove I'm still working on it...
The Ferrari F50 GT1 based on the Tamiya 1:24th kit.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/bill-f50gt1-01.jpg
The wheels were cast using modified Tamiya PIAA honda 5-spoke Speedlines with separate nuts and aluminum tubing axles. The brakes are cast from the Tamiya CLK kit.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/bill-f50gt1-02.jpg
All bodywork is 3M Pirahna Putty over styrene and currently covered in Dupli-Color sandable primer.
Those who remember this project from a year (or so!) ago should be able to spot the differences. Yes there's still a LOT of work to go, but in the end I'll have one heck of a never-been-raced Ferrari....race car...LOL

Next up is Tamiya's 1:24th version of Jeff Krosnoff's (RIP) Toyota Supra in SARD livery.
While Jeff DID compete at LM, this version builds into the JGTCC version.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-07.jpg
I just couldn't stand the blue wheels so I ended up using a mixture of MM non-buffing exhaust and gunmetal.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-08.jpg
The mirrors and the wing uprights were modified to use pins to set up their correct alignment
and all body clips and external switches were sanded smooth or drilled out and will be replaced
with either PE or scratchbuilt alternatives including the external fasteners on the rear fender extensions.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-01.jpg
The chassis and body have been painted with Tamiya Pure White. The seat has gotten a respray,
once again deviating from the actual red to a black/grey/light grey color with SMS CF decaled back in pewter/black.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-06.jpg
The undercarriage was covered in Bare Metal Foil on the driveshaft tunnel and firewall. MM buffing exhaust was used
for the engine/tranny/rear end assembly. The driveshaft was replaced with ally tubing and the front shocks were
modified using real springs.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-05.jpg
Rollcage foam tubing was simulated using wire shielding
and the various black boxes, oil coolers and fire bottle were plumbed.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-04.jpg
Dash decal is Tamiya's, console decal is Renaissance/Virages. Detail painting was done
with Tamiya and MM acrylics using a sharpened toothpick.
Centering strip on steering wheel rim is a thin layer of Tamiya masking tape.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-03.jpg
The connectors to the rear oil coolers were scratchbuilt out of styrene and coated in Tamiya clear blue.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-02.jpg
The fuel tank was painted semi-gloss black and then covered in SMS CF decal and 8 PE NBW
assemblies were installed using Future as the glue.
Currently 2 coats of PPG Nason 2-part auto clear are hardening on the body and related parts.
I'll post the updates of the body polishing (micro-mesh) and decaling job...which look sot be a NIGHTMARE!
Jeff was one of the few Americans who's abilities made him a legend in another country (Japan)
and his premature death on a Canadian streetcourse was a shock and reminder to all fans
that racing is indeed, a dangerous sport.
Thanks for everyone's kind words and thanks for showing us your great LM and sportscar models!
Bill

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v296/bviasv650s/96gt1/jeff-supra-08.jpg
