Fun at the track (OR) Less is more.

So, I went down to the track again tonight and had a blast. I had my girlfriend with me and had to keep her company, so I didn't make as many passes as I would have liked but I still got what I was there for.
I went down about a month ago with a friend from work because I told him how fun it was and he just "upgraded" from a Ford Tempo to a Ranger and he figured he was ready for a night at the track. My car was fresh in spring mode with my winter wheels (89 teg rims and Hercules snow tires) and I think I even had my hip waders in the back seat.. :grinno: Anyway, the best time I could muster was shitty [email protected] with a best 2.38 60'. Needless to say I didn't bring that up on the board because people would rip into me (wich I felt I deserved).
Tonight when I went down my car was a little more ready, but not completley. I recently got new rims that are at least 10lbs lighter each than my winter wheels, and for experiment sake I took out all my stereo shit from the trunk and quickly pulled out the rear seat. This time the best I could do in 6 passes is [email protected] and a [email protected]. So, losing 10lbs in rotational mass on each corner, and about 80-100lbs can be good for .3 seconds. Maybe faster if I stayed longer but I booked because I had "things" to do.
I'll go back soon though with my hood and more stuff removed in a bit :evillol:. Also, I need to pick up a CAI. There will be more updates next time. I want 14.5 with simple cheap boltons.. I've also got a CTR crank pulley that needs to go on as soon as I can afford a timing belt and water pump.

St.Thomas. I'm going to go to Cayuga this summer for sure though, they've got a LOT better track since last year.
Fun story? Okay. My last run of the night was the only exciting car I got to line up with, and it was a guy and his (cute) girlfriend in a late 80s, early 90s 5.0 Crustang with the trunk and it was idling like blub blub blub blub so I figured I was going to get roasted. Meanwhile, I'm sure the guy who owned the car proabably thought he was going to rock me for sure too, so he probably quipped something about little Civics or whatever. Anyway, we take off and I put a car on him off the line, and by the end I had him by at least two cars or so.. I could see him in the drivers side mirror. I ran a 15.0 (missed a gear) and he ran a 15.5, and when I slowed down to reach the end and turn around I looked over with a big smile right when he was beside me.. His girlfreind was in hysteria. She was lauging so hard she couldn't just sit back in her seat. It was awesome.
Then when I pulled up to get my chick and leave he had to come up to me and say something to save face.. He goes "Uhhhh.. I couldn't get any traction." and I said, "Ya, thats always a problem. Good luck."
It was fun, I think his dink shrunk about 2 inches on the spot when I rocked him. :p
91lxdreamer - Thanks man.

hey SiZ, don't you have a 90-91?!?! if so you should look into some racing harnesses. i know it sounds silly to just stick them in with stock seats, however pulling the stock belt out of the door is pulling probably close to 10lbs out of each door.
$40-80 on ebay for Mugen style http://search.ebay.com/mugen-4-point_W0QQsofocusZbsQQsbrftogZ1QQcatrefZC6QQfromZR 10

you should try to remove the catalytic converter to run open exhaust. Its always worked for me at the track for an extra boost, especially on a b16 with the top end that it has

Ya, it would be sweet to drop the whole exhaust off. Its a lot of weight and I know that I have a slightly more restricitve exahust because I'm fucking sick of the buzzing noise. Its 2.5" though, and it obviously does the trick, but dropping it at the track would be nice.
I'm going to take all the plastic out of the rear next time, I just took out the seats and carpet this time but next time I'm going to take out more.
