91 4-runner throwing code for ECT

This 4 runner will take a notion to all of a sudden die when coming to a stop. Then it is hard to start, but finally does if you keep pouring the gas to it. Today it did this and when it re-started it had a strong gas smell. I pulled the codes and it triggered one for ECT fault. Heres my thinking, someone please see if this makes sense. ECT is acting up and doesnt give computer proper engine temp. Therefore it throws max fuel to the engine when you try and start, and basically floods it causing it hard to start. Could this be true and possibly what is causing it to die?

Also does anyone know exactly where the ECT is located on these vehicles?
