it's got a governor, so unless you do something to fix that you aren't going over 114 mph. and, 150 mph? sounds a little much. my guess would be closer to 130-140.

140-150 in a V6 stang?!? That doesn't add up at all. :sly:

how? its gto more power and tq then a zx2 and a zx2 wil max out in teh low 140's so i dont see why a v6 stang cant get closer to 150

The top speed of a ZX2 is governed at 105mph. I've found a couple of sites that claim that they've reached 125 with it disabled. Without even taking into account the innacuracies in spedometers as they pass 100, thats a far cry from 140.
The V6 stang does have more power, but it also weighs 600 pounds more.

i have had my car to 135 personaly(didnt feel safe going faster on tires rated fro 120) and it was still slowly pulling, many people have had it in the 140 range
and the gov is at 106, and teh S/R(fr) pcm dosent have a govener

i gotta 98 V6 auto stang, and that POS will barely get above 100. Took a couple minutes to get there the last time I tried to go that fast, before i gave up LOL
i'd be suprised if the newer ones go above 120
i mean the turds redline at like, what, 4800?

thats a joke right?
My zx2 winds out 3rd at like 90mph(minus a mile or 2) and still is still pulling hard all through 4th, ther are many people who have hit 130-148 range in them.
if a 82 Escort EXP cna hit 110 im sure a 98 stang can do better, hell my 91 taurus would pin the 85mph speedo and still be pulling like a mother

I have been rebuilding late model wrecked cars for years and I have noticed in recent years all cars i've checked(dodge, chrysler, cad, mustang, saturn, bmw, olds ) are limited by the computer to 105-115 mph max. no matter what gear you are in.

I am willing to believe just about anything with some proof. A car with 130hp that weights over 2300 pounds going 140+ is going to take more then 'many people have'. I have not found anyone yet who's made that claim and had any evidence to back it up.
My VR4 would start running out of leg room when getting into the high 150s and it had two and a half times the horsepower. And remember weight does not effect top speed. It only affects one drag source -friction, and even then, its effect is almost COMPLETELY overwhelmed by aerodynamic losses.
Here is some good reading on the subject.

You can't argue with the math.

i've got an '01, it redlines at 5500 and it gets to 110 quite easily. the problem is it's governed at 114...but i think it could probably go 135, most cars of that power and weight can get to that or close (think V6 sports sedans) also, (and i've got an automatic) since third gear goes to about 105, with two more gears left i'd think it would have to go to at least 130 (even though the OD gear is crappy).

This kind of reminds me of the other night when 3 of us were on the way to cordova race way. 3 cars and I was in the lead. I was cruising at 75/80 MPH. Well we stopped halfway there for a quick soda and strech and one of the guys was like "DUDE!!! Slow down, we are going like 120 MPH." Well my speedo said 75-80MPH and so did the other car. Morale of the story, Don't beleve your speedometer unless you know it is 100% accurate.
P.S. The guy that said we were going 120 had just recently put new gears in his car and he did not think that it would make his speedo inaccurate.

I opened up my 99 v6 auto once on a straight road with slight hills up and down. Manually shifting with OD off I reached 110 (right according to my digital speedo) in 3rd at 4200-4500 (i used to remember). Not a whole lot of pull at 110, but i could have went to 4th a coasted upwards nicely. At 110 I decided to slow my ass down because I just went for a spin with a friend in auto-tech during school hours. I had dual flows w/ h-pipe, K&N filter and 17x9 yokohamas at the time.

search it on teamzx2.com, may have taken it to 125+ ranage but some have actually had the balls to take a escort to 140ish

I had a 68 Firebird with a 383 stroker pulling 450 hp. I brought it up to 150 mph trying to peg my 160 speedo. It would have made it but common sense took hold when it started to feel like a plane. Going that fast on a stock suspension once in my life was enough! At 150 mph you are traveling 220 feet per second, that's 1 mile every 24 seconds or 6 seconds per 1/4 mile.

No, the 3.8 V6 will not do 140-150. Sorry.
It takes a lot more ponies, and even with the ones under the hood of my SC I can only push her to 140+/- 5 miles. Even with the "few" mods on it...

it's about gearing. most family cars have gears that are designed for fuel economy, not acceleration, so they have a higher top speed. mustangs have a relatively high gear ratio to improve acceleration and make the car fun to drive (though even those gear ratios are conservative compared to aftermarket gears like 3.73s or 4.10s). i mean, if you put a 1:1 gear ratio in a car you'd probably be able to achieve a very high top speed but your acceleration would be shit (think starting in fifth gear or worse.)

I don't believe it can hit 150. My 4.6 won't do but about 130 thats just a quess because it pegs at 120, but it went on a little longer after pegging.
And yes I do have a chip to remove the governor (well used to I got to get another one)
And I won't drive it that fast anymore I don't want to risk hurting the car it was just an experiment run I don't suggest driving that fast you feel like your flying an airplane
My 92 3.8 T-bird would do about 115 I only know this because a friend rode behind to clock me (only read 85), but it took a long time to get there

First off i used to own a zx2 and it topped out at 106mph. Since a v6 mustang has a bigger engine and taking weight into account I think they might go 115-120 with the governer disabled.

it doesnt top out at 106, its electronicly limited to 106, it can go over 130.

a ZX2 tops out at 105??? my moms escort, a FOUR DOOR, i went 120mph. Now, a mustang with a V6 I can safely say it would go 135mph. Guess how many ponies are on my car? 110 horsepower! I hope this helps.
