99 Blazer new distributor engine timing

I want to install a new distributor in my 4.3l(w) motor. Does anybody know how to set the initial timing when you install it? No timing marks on balancer. Thanks for your help.

with motor at tdc on the compression stroke of cylinder 1. There is a white line on distributor shaft that needs to line up with a detent on the gear(below the roll pin that holds the gear on). Try to match up the oil pump drive(look down the hole the distributor is in) and place the distributor. If all goes well the rotor should point to a v shaped pointer cast into the distributor with a 6 on it.
