I have a 95 Tahoe 2-dr, 4x4, 150K miles. During idle, the A/C compressor cycles in and out about one-two times per second. During highway use it operates fine, and the cooling is excellent. Can anyone tell what part need replacing?

It only does it occasionally while idling, even in cool weather. I've been meaning to replace the pressure switch just to see if that cure the problem. It's about a $15 part that can be installed in 30 seconds. If I ever get around to doing it, I'll let you know if it works.

its supposed to do that. some other makes do the same thing.... it automaticly keeps a set pressure even if you are not running your a/c

i had to same problem i asked a guy at my work who has been fixing cars for over 30years and he said its normal.

Sure, the compressor's supposed to cycle, but at the rate of about 3 times per second.

once evry 10 sec is fine 3 times a sec you need to check your pressures to find out if your freon is low

and the ac will run when defrost is on for 2 reasons
to pull moisture out of the cab so the window wont fog up and to keep the seals lubrecated
