Anyone in texas street race? Reason I ask is because I was prolly gunna get a cold-intake but I heard it was a bad idea cuz of the rain and the air or sumth, i forget, but I heard it was a bad idea, so duz ne one have any bad experiences with that??

thats prolly one of the stupidest things i have ever heard. Both asking as if only street racers would know and also that rain alone will mess up ur CAI. The only time a CAI is a bad idea is if you are going to be driving through deep puddles and completly submerging your filter. Which regardless of how much rain texas gets, if ur not a bumbass ull have no problems

you need to take it easy,im not insulting u as much as i am the Dumbasses who actually waterlock their cars because of their CAI. And I wasnt implying that you will be one of the people that do that, but yes i was saying that the people that do it are dumbasses. And if you wanna get all pissy thats fine but im still answering your question that no matter how wet it is out moving your intake down by the road will not mess up your car

o u musta read my rough draft, sorry bout that, ya so I dont get wat ure sayin, i dont know all too much yet but waterlocking it would be that black box on the filter rite or no.. and why would people not have problems if that had a CAI? Cuz i dunn if youve ever been here but it likes to flood every once ina wile and I dont think i wanna take a 30 mile detour to get ware I want cuz theres like 2-4 inches of water. And no im not getting pissy

Yes if your roads are flooding or it's raining really hard for a while, the cai can pick up a lot of water and start going into your intake manifold and bog your motor out. My buddy had it happen to him last summer and his car was ready to die (this was in Central NY). Get the bypass thing from AEM and see if it works (saw some magazine article someone on the forum posted a link to that said it doesn't work all that great unless the end is in the water) so take that for what it's worth.

i believe the correct term is hydrolocking.. the bypass valve robbes you of the hp you gain from the intake.. or so i've heard..

ya my bad delerious ur right on the term. As for the bypass i dont have any experience so i cant really say. To answer your question hydrolocking is when water gets sucked into your engine and kills it, and i understand ur desire not to go way outa your way. if you dont want that bypass thing you could get a short ram intake and just put that in whenever it rains really hard, seems kinda excessive but its your call

yeah, if it were me i wouldn't even bother... besides, if you hydrolock the engine.. it's just an excuse to get a swap!! :evillol: hehehe

haha true, my bud hydrolocked his integra a bit ago, dumbass. Luckly it wasnt too bad and didnt do engine damage and he just got the water sucked out through his spark plug holes and he was good to go...phew

Ya im gettin a B18c1 swap later but imma juss have a CAI or short ram, but is the only difference like by 3-5 HP??

don't worry too much about it.
i put in an AEM CAI a couple months ago into my 5th gen prelude. i've had to go through a couple of big puddles (its miami, no way around it sometimes). in order to hydrolock, the filter has to be completely submerged. if you have to go through a puddle, try to idle through it, if you rev, it'll create more suction and increase your chances of sucking in water. the way my car sits, my guess is that i'd have to drive through a puddle so big that i'd end up stalling the engine from water in my exhaust, not my intake.

another thing, if your really paranoid, get the bypass valve (i bought it, just never installed it). they sell rubber tubing you can use instead of the valve when its not raining or your racing. if it really starts pouring, you can rapidly exchange the rubber piece for the bypass valve

hydrolock is pretty rare...as its been said a million times over you would have to be stupid enough to try to burn out or speed in a huge puddle to hydrolock your motor...

haha crzycollegekid I love your sig sometimes i think about everything i've learned from last year september (16th b-day when I REALLY got into cars) to now...its alotta car shit if i must say so myself
