ETS off light is on

I have a 97 cavalier and when i started the car this morning my ETS off is on and so is my check engine light. I have been told to drive in a lower gear to turn the ETS back on, so I tried that and nothing happened!! Any suggestions?

the ets off light comes on as a default whenever your check engine light comes on. take it to autozone or somewhere to get the check engine code read to see what needs to be done to get rid of it. get rid of the check engine code, get your ets back. that simple
