I installed a new cd player in my 01 GTI yesterday, making sure to wire the accessory wire to the fuseblock. I also read a couple of DIY's about running the dimmer wire to the dimmer knob to the left of the light switches. So I did that, and well, everything works great except I have noticed a couple minor changes:
1) when my car is running and I open the door, there is no longer a buzzing noise.
2) when my lights are on and I go to get out of the car, there is no "warning your lights are still on" buzzing noise. Once and a while, it will make this noise when I purposely leave my lights on but only for a half-second.
3) the interior lights do not turn on when I open my doors. They do however turn on when I remotely unlock the car, or remove the key from the ignition. (And yes, I did check the lights themselves to make sure they were in the right position).
I removed the dimmer wire that I had installed with the cd player, but that didn't fix anything. I looked over the fuses and none of them seem to be blown (from what I can tell).
Any insight? Is there a specific fuse that I should be looking at? The fuse card in my car has no writing aside from numbers and pictures, which to me is almost useless. Could I have shorted something out?
