What is a good price

What's up everyone...new forum member here. I was wondering what you guys thought would be a good price to pay for a 1995 Aurora in good condition with 183,000 miles? It was owned by an older business man who had all maintenance done as his company paid for it. No dents or dings, car appears to be in very good condition. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, but this seems to be a site similar to kbb.com, or nada.com that tells you the fair market value of a car. I wanted to know what some of the people on this board would pay for a car in good condition with that many miles. The average car buyer may or may not be into Auroras like some of the people on this forum, so that's why I asked. Thanks anyway.

Welcome aboard SmoOve. One recommendation is to check out Ebay. There's always a handful of Auroras for sale (auction)--some from reputable dealers (just check up on their seller ratings on Ebay)...also check the seller's feedbacks that were given by buyer that purchased from that seller on Ebay. You may luck up and find an Aurora on Ebay up for auction by a seller in your area whereby you can go and visually inspect the car/ test drive etc., or one may be the next state over from you--where you can hop a train, plane, bus, or drive there.

But to ultimately answer your question....
each person values an Aurora differently from the next guy....I personally--wouldn't get an Aurora with that many miles on it at all...no matter how good she looked or how good she drove.

Just my 0.02 cents. :2cents:

if you are looking for reliable transportation i'd say dont buy that car.. If you are looking for a car that you will soon throw away then i say go for it.

Are Auroras that unreliable? You almost never hear Honda, Toyota, or Nissan owners say that! I ended up paying $1300 for the car. He originally wanted $2000. So far so good. I picked it up Saturday. Normally, I'd say that was too many miles as well, but I just felt that for the price, as well as all of the maintenance having been done, that it was too good to pass up on. The owner had also had a new water pump, coolant system belt and some kind of tensioner belt put on a day or so before I bought it. Last year it had a new tranny put it. I think that the guy must have somehow lost his license and that was the reason he was trying to sell so fast. He told me that if it hadn't have sold this past weekend that he would have given it to a family member. Thanks to all for their input.

$1300 huh? That's little depressing since that is exactly my car <sniff>.

The good news for you is aside from some suspension wear making my 65-70 mph shake get a little worse, I have pretty much already replaced all the expensive stuff. That's a little freaky since I too just had all kinds of tranny work done, though I didn't need a total replacement. I also put a lot of miles on every day. It's about a 90 mile round trip for me. It really seems like the highway driving is easy on the engine and everything.

I think you'll be fine too. You can afford a repair or two for $1300. I would totally agree that my wife's Hyundai is more reliable, but it's not like my Aurora ever leaves me stranded. It's just that things like the A/C and lots of other parts seem to go out for damn near all of us at some point. When they do, it's expensive. I look at it as I got a great deal on such a luxurious and fun car- I paid just under $10K for my 95 with 100,000 on it about 4.5 years ago. I just have made up for the low purchase price in a few grand in fixits.

Thanks guys. You've really helped my reservations about this car. I have always liked these cars, but I've always been into mostly foreign cars like the Acura Legend, or Nissan Maxima. With the exception of my Ford Expedition, it's been a long time since I've had an American made car. I feel like I lucked out because I couldn't have picked a better one. A friend of mine had a 1995 Aurora and when I asked for his opinion, he said he only had minor troubles, but that he loved the car. When I told him that the tranny was replaced, and that the water pump and tensioner belt had just been replaced, he practically made me buy it!

A 1995 Aurora with 183000 miles is worth $1000 if it runs and drives. In mint condition it's worth $2500-3000. My 1995 Aurora has 102,000 miles and dealer offered my $800 for it! but private individual offered $4000, my suggestion is, DO NOT BUY a high mileage Aurora unless under $2000, and don't ever install any sparkplugs but NGK Irridium (found at NGK.com) and Borg Warner top of the line spark plug wireset for $157 (from Carparts.com)
