New engine for Mazda B2200

I have a 1987 Mazda B2200 extended cab with 5sp manual that needs a new engine. I have a friend that has what he thinks is a Mazda fuel injected 2.2L engine (FE model??) My question is: Is this engine compatible? Would it be possible to remove the fuel injection and make it a carbureted? I have lots of pictures of the engine that I can send if it would help.
