Where's the thermostat?

I've changed the thermostat in several vehicles -so I know a little about what I'm doing...

But I can't find the thermostat anywhere on my 94 ford escort wagon!
I dsconnected the radiator hose on top of engine (under the air cooling to air filter hose) but the thermostat was not there!

Can someone please tell me where the thing is? !!!
I really don't want to have to take it to a shop to change this out.

If you have the 1.9 L engine it is located under the coil pack housing on the end of the engine. On the 1.8 it is located on the front of the engine beside the coil. To replace the thermostat on the 1.9 you will have to remove the housing for the coil pack and the coil pack to get to it. There is also a heater hose attached to the housing.
