93 Z28 Help

Alright so I am a little retarded. I have a 1993 Z28 with the LT1. I hit the rear passenger side and will require the new quarter panel. Also I damaged the back bumper on that side and can now see there is a few layers back there. My question is, I am thinking it would be smarter to buy a different body and put my engine and all that into it. Or do you think it would be smarter to repair. If I were to buy just the body, can you someone direct me where to look to buy one cheap.

Thanks,

It would be a lot cheaper just to buy a rear quarter panel and bumper skin wouldnt it??

what do you mean by you can see a few layers?

yeah thats what i was gonna say...its gonna be a hell of alot more money if you buy a whole new body.

well actually i dont know, paint is expensive these days, somone hit my moms jeep on the rear quarter panel and that was like 1000 buck worth of damage, the question is how good is your paint?? are you going to need a new paint job or can you get the new quarter panel to match?? a good paint job will cost alot, probably as much as just a body of a 93 if you can find one thats not already damaged

if you have significant body damage to any quarter panels etc. you could deffinetly run up a bill, but it would probably still be better than changing the whole body, i mean do you plan on doing that every time you get hit, thats my point.

dude are you kidding??? aftermarkert stuff is like 1000x times cheaper than buying a whole new body, just get the parts man, my uncles have been repairing collision cars for a long time, so i know what im talking about...

haha you got ripped off, when you just do it yourself instead of paying people, i got a whole 2 gallon paint bucket for $150, and thats enough for any car...

no i didnt get ripped off, geico did, and it was worth it if you ask me, cant even tell it was hit,and ive seen two 4th gen bodys go for around 1500 to 2000 here, shit i want to find a 3rd with no motor and trans strip it and have all the panels body parts etc so if i were to get into an accident boom i would already have it

and not all people can do work like this there selves, paint etc...

i send people to the people who repair collisions, but were talking about repairs here, the same parts that would be on the body you purchase could be purchased individually, the work for transplanting a body would be much more, so i don't see what kind of logic youre using to justify purchasing a whole new body. what are you gonna say just go to a boneyard and get it, ok well then i say go to the boneyard and get the parts you need, spend less time doing the work, and you just saved yourself some money.

and if youre talking about *new* parts, well if youre trying to tell me that all of them combined are less expensive than buying them individually which you could even shop around for that doesn't make sense either.

well im guess im trying to say that between labor costs and parts cost etc... it would be close to that of a whole body, if you can find one cheap, but your right, it would be more expenisive and time consuming if you bought a whole body because then you would have to swap all the shit over....and im talkin about takin the car up to the body shop and jsut sayin fix it, so they would supply the fender

i think i might be able to agree to disagree with RIDGE if this were a third or second gen, cause you can find those pretty cheap in yards or where ever. considering that this is a fourth gen, i would say just get the panels and replace them that way. although i see where youre coming from ridge...

yeah i didnt mean to come off wrong its just that you could go through all of that and then drive it out on the street and get clipped again eventually repairing the sections is gonna take over ya know

Well I have taken it to the body shop, they want some ridiculous money, I need a new paint job any how, so I am figuring 5000 on that. But there estimate was somewhere near 14,000 with new paint and everything. What I mean by layers, was the plastic bumper under there and then I see there are like 3-4 different other pieces. They say the frame was not twisted or out of line so that is good, but like the trunk dont close right evenly across, so I think there is more damage here then I realize. The quarter Panel is not something that I can do though because from my understanding the actually have to cut the old one off, and weld a new one on. Then I will need to obviously get a new tail light no big deal, get a whole new bumper assembly, and new trunk probably. I did hit the jersey wall at about 140, but it didnt break the tail light itself. I will also need to get a new exhaust, I had a custom Exhaust welded on there, and one of the pipes on passenger side got bent. I think I will just forget about fixing this until some other day. Thanks all for your help.

Well, looks like I should get some pics of the damage and let you see what I am dealing with. Stay tuned for them, I have no problem driving to Mass, I got a trailer and access to the GMC 2500. So will keep you posted.
