Hey I was a little curious and figured that you guys would have the most knowledge... Yes the skyline from 2fast 2furious was pretty damn ugly...BUT... It sounded pretty sick when he was on the freeway and my question basically is was the sound it made just the sweet rb26dett or was it mainly the exhaust (HKS carbon fiber titanium)?

Thanks

Hi. I don't know what the GTR in the movie was using but I am using a Suoer Drager with the mid section silencer and catalytic converter removed. I can tell ya that my car sounds really SICK especially on the track. :naughty:

RB motors have a very distinc sound yes. No other motor sounds remotely like it when it is angry, but it is the size of the exhaust, style, and what is in it that also enhance this sound or make it louder.

As R33 said his car with a super dragger would sound very simular. I've got a Trust Power Extreme Street/Racing system which when just normal driving is fairly quite, yet when I come into full boost it roars.

What you are asking is too hard to fully explain without getting too technical but suffice to say when an RB turbo motor, be it an RB20, RB25, or RB26 each has a slightly different tone but are simular with the RB26 sounding slightly deeper in note than the RB20.

when you say it's too technical...do you mean like that there are other factors that decide the outcome of the sound or what?

Yes there are way too many variables that changes the note slightly to dramatically. Turbo(s) size, internal external wastegates, downpipes, dump pipes, exhaust size, shape, amount and types of baffeling if any, resinator or muffer size and construction, make, material it is made out of, head work, cams the list goes on.

The RB series without a doubt has a sound that unique to it. The SR20 and 4G63T motors sound very simular add to that the CA18T to the list. They all sound so simular that unless you are really clued into the exact pitch you can't tell them appart.

You can reckonize an RB motor from nearly a 1/4 mile away though when in full song.

thanks a whole lot... that was an answer I was looking for because the only thing I can afford right now is a turbo eclipse which uses the 4g63... but I do have another question, I thought that the SRs sounded a little bit more "high pitched" if you will....not as deep as the RB...not by far but I take your word for it because you obviously have more experience in this field but just thought I would add this last question...but thank you very much for your last answer

I cud only speak through experience as I don't know much abut engines etc. The 4g63 sounds loud and booming, especially when they are married to apexi titanium exhausts/hayabusa. The SR cud also sounds almost similar.
They are not that high pitch-ed but yes, they lack the lower note/grunts of the RB. On the track, I could easily identify the Evos/SRs coming down the back straight before they appear on the front straights. But The Rb26 always sound "fuller" and the note is always "lower" than the Evos/SRs on full steam.
But the idling notes...the RB26 is much softer than the Evos/SRs. The notes from the STi are pretty sick at low rpms. I like those!

btw, a fren of mind has the titanium hks racing exhaust. And I cud say his gtr sounds SICKER than mind! Even though his cams hv lower lift than mind.
