Ok so I wake up this morning with my Dad yelling at my dog, I look out the window and there is a Guy in a Silverado sitting on the side of the road. I think, My dog just ran away right? Wrong I open the door to see my dad carrying her into the house, The guy nailed her at 45mph, Note : This dog wasn't even a year old Only weighted under 50lbs. He set her down on the couch and all I could do is sit there in shock because this has never happened to me before, So I call my mom at work to come and get me so I could take her to the vet's, She had a few cut's on her face from hitting the pavement. But the only think that pisses me off the most is this guy was speeding, The speed limit by my house is posted 35MPH, granite He did stop and say he was sorry. I respect him for that, But then the mother fucker get's cocky with me when I tell him he need's to slow down when he's coming up over a blind hill, He told me, Yeah well If she was tied up like she was suppose to be, This wouldn't have happened. Bullshit If you were watching the road and NOT speeding this shit wouldn't have happened. So I take her to the vet's with my Mom, Dad was too upset to bring her because she is one of his favorite's, And because he let her out that morning he felt that it was his fault. So back to the vet's, We take her in, She examine's her. Give's her the shot for shock. She started moving her leg's so I thought she was going to be fine. The vet told me to go home and calm down and my Mom returned to work. She took X-ray's of her and my Mom called when she got home, And... Both of her hip's were broken and the pelvis was broken to. At first the vet mentioned a Hip replacement, But because of how young she was, Her bones would end up growing more and the hip replacement would be worthless. So me, my mom, and my dad (he came the second time) Both talked and agreed that the best thing for her was to put her down. This was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, When I was 14-15 I had to put down my other dog. She was 13 year's old and just couldn't move anymore.. This one seem's 50 time's harder then my other dog. Mainly because she had so much to live for, She was only a puppy. I just can't take the fact that she was kissing me and i was cuddling with her just last night and now she's gone. I just don't think i could go through something like this again, And now my other dog is so lost without her. I did go in and see her once last time before we left, She tried to wag her tail and kiss my face but she just couldn't. It's just heartbreaking when something like this happen's. I'm just glad she don't have to suffer anymore. A puppy like this does not deserve something like this to happen, Although she might have ran in front of him, If he wasn't speeding he would have been able to avoid her. I just needed to rant and get this shit off my chest because I just can't take it anymore.I can't eat, I can't sleep..... I just loved her so much and can't stand to see her leave. :sadwavey:

Simple solution; truck hits dog, bat hits face. See how he likes being hit with something going really fast. Or you could hit HIM with a truck, it's only fair.

I would join you, but I'm a little far away. Oh well, it'll get better. I'm used to it from my grandpa when I was a little kid. They would never get run over by anyone else, he would back over them in the truck. Basically, he backs up, then looks to see what's there after he's already hit it.

You SHOULD have tied the dog up, would the 10 mph have made much difference?? Probably not.

Sorry about your loss, all the same.

Sorry about your dog. I have had a few myself and two of them were hit. One died instantly. I had to verify. That sucked. The other had surgery and died at a ripe OLD age. This was yr's back, but all the same it sucks nontheless.

I have a 5 yr lab now and she is the world. Give it some time and down the road you will want another.

As for the guy speeding? The legal side is there was no police to clock the speed, but if you absolutelty feel he was at fault, then you could take him to claims court. Dont quote me, I am not a lawyer, but know many. These days you can sue for anything!!! If anything, you could get the man to pay for the vet bill..

Sorry to say I agree.

Oh and 10 MPH makes ALL the difference. He wouldn't of even hit the dog in the first place. Think about it.

You know, this is the first time i have read a post on AF and actually felt something like an emotion over the topic.

I am really sorry for your loss. For those who are telling him to tie up his dog etc, CAN IT. He probably realizes that at this point.

From experience, the best way to overcome the feeling of loss is to move on. Get another dog, and name it something similar to your last one. You can never replace a pet, but life WILL go on.

Best of luck.

I have to agree with Matada. Telling the kid he should have done this, that or the other thing is not going to help him cope with his loss in the least. Would you tell someone who just lost a parent to lung cancer "Whelp, guess they shouldnt have smoked all those cigarettes then, huh?" C'mon, now...

Ummm Hello people, he did say he lives in the country, why would you tie down a dog. Besides if the bastard was going the speed limit he would have had enough time to avoid the accident. Just because its a dog does not excuse the fact that it means less or that the bastard was doing wrong in the first place by speeding. Replace the dog with a child and you get what I mean, .

It really freaking sucks, I feel for you. Our pets are like family in fact they are family, you come home and they are happy to see you no matter what mood they or you are in. Shoot, my family doesn't even do that. Its a shame that no legal action would come out of it either since pets are considered property and not living breathing creatures. So again I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm sorry for my going off about the subject but stuff like this really pisses me off.

Again sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your dog :(. As a few people said before...Who the hell would tie a dog up if it lives in a wide ranged area..That guy should have slowed down and kept a better eye out.

Thank's for all the caring comment's guy's, I appreciate the support here. Right now I'm looking for a new dog so I can take my mind off this one for a while. I already put in a request at the SPCA (Place where we adopted both our dog's from) For them to call us when any puppy's come in. I kinda want the same breed also. They said they're pretty common so I'm hoping the best on gettin one just like the one that had to be put down. She was a Chow/ Black lab mix if anyone was wondering, I feel so bad because my computer crashed a while ago so now I have not a single picture to show you guy's.

Here is a picture I found off the internet that is the exactly what my dog looked like.

puppy stage:

Man, I feel. I really do.

We had to get our dog put down a few years ago when I was about 14, 15 years old. He was so old he couldn't move anymore. I took it ok.

If my dog ever got run over, depending on the situation, I would go absolutley ape shit at who ever hit them. Or I would chase them in my car.
I live on a small street in a quiet neighbourhood, so it would be pretty easy to catch the son-of-a-bitch.

Nice looking dog/breed. yeah the ASPCA really has some nice dogs, I got both my current two beagles from there.

Before the beagles, I had a doberman and it was the most sweetest female dobi I have ever met. We never got to cut her tail off like most dobis so it looked kinda strange with a tail. Everyone was scared of her, but she was never trained to be aggressive (even when we wanted her to be to protect us, she just was cool and playful.)
The only time she got hurt was when some punk, was walking his pit bull pup without a lease (what is it with city folk not having their dogs on a lease) anyway it went for my dobis' throat. Rusty (thats her name, for the color) was hurt to say the least, but the vet fixed her up.
I never felt so much anger toward another human being as much as that day. But I was so much in shock and wanting to remedy the situation of taking her to the vet that I didn't bother giving the guy a piece of my mind. I did know where he lived at and filed charges etc. But this is when I found out that the courts see them as property and not living creatures. :banghead: So nothing came out of it.

Eventually she developed really bad joint problems and could not walk anymore a few years later and so we to put her to sleep That was really hard.

Well...sorry to hear of the loss. But you really shouldn't let a 1 year old puppy run around when you have a 35 mph speed limit road right next to your house. I could understand if you have an older..smarter dog that knows about cars.

pre98zetec

I was sleeping and my dad let her out, From what it look's like from the mark's on the side of the road. It almost look's like he "mean't" to hit her. I don't care if my dog was in the road, If he was doing the speed limit and fucking looking he would have saw her, regardless if she was in the road or not he could have avoided it. My dog wasn't stupid, She knew what car's were. She did go near the road, But NEVER in the road, The only thing she did was go on the side of the road. Which, from the mark's on the side of the road he purposly veered off the road and hit my dog. And if I ever prove what happen the son of a bitch will pay.

Both those dogs look like exatly like ones I've had in the past. The black one looks like our dog Doo-doo (haha, I know) she died of old age, and we planted a dogwood tree over her grave. The dalmation is identical to my old dog, Sparky. She also died of old age/parvos. It was so sad seeing Sparky get old, and not being able to walk. The day my parents told me they had to put her down, I cried all the way home from work. I feel for you *hugs*

The dalmation is not purebreed, It's a lab/dalmation mix. Real good dog, That one is my mom's. His name is "Spot" Who coulda guessed?

Sorry to hear about your loss, I know what you're going through. My ex-wife ran over our basset hound while backing out of our garage many years ago. The dog only lasted a few minutes before passing away, so I don't think the speed really is an issue. I had to put my last "pound puppy" to sleep a few years ago due to age related problems. It was a hard decision to make.

Just last week I was doing 25 mph in a small neighborhood street when a large dog ran out into the street. I was lucky enough to stop in time, but boy was I shook up for a moment, it could've been a kid.

I am sorry for your loss, and happy for your new dog. I am a dog person myself, preferring Golden Retrievers. I have had 5, and had to watch them all get put down sans the last one, which is with my mother because she needed a friend since she is getting older. One thing, did you get the guys info? I know it was a traumatic time, but informing the authorities, right after it happened, and having them mark the skid marks, they can prove he was speeding, and I dont know about your area, but hitting a animal, is the same as a vehicle accident, and needs to be reported. the cops can get him for failure to report an accident, speeding, leaving the scene of an accident, and so forth.

pre98zetec
06-19-2004, 10:30 PM
There were no skid mark's, There was no evidence that he even tried to avoid it. No, I didn't get the guy's info, After he got cocky with me he hoped in his truck and left.
