1984 Corvette tranny problem

I finally got frustrated with my crossfire injection and replaced it with a carburator. I wanted to work the bugs out before I built a new motor, and I found my first problem. The motor runs great, but it doesn't shift! I have never worked on a 700R4 tranny. Any suggestions on getting it to shift?

Okay, with the car running in park, check the fluid level. If the fluid is good then consider getting a 87' and later 700r4, these have alot better internal components than the 86' and earlier ones.

also, check to see if the shifter linkage is streached badly, or broken or missing. That is about all I can think of that will keep the tranny from shifting. If both of these things are good (the fluid level and the shifter linkage) the next thing I would suggest is an inspection at a reasonably priced tranny shop.

Thanks... I found out that the linkage was not engageing far enough and that fixed the problem, however it still shifts like a Buick. It looks like it is time for a rebuild...

Don't think rebuild yet, get it inspected first, maybe you just need a shift kit so it will grab the gears better. I am glad I could help. Also you may need a fluid flush to get some new fluid in it, when tranny fluid gets old it loses its ability to grip the discs in the torque converter, making the shifting slow and slippery.
