I'm looking at a 97 spyder...gs . Don't really NEED a fast car and I know these aren't fast, prob not bad though. good milage. I have hear a lot about avove average amounts of problems with mits cars and the eclips in paticular. I am overwhelmed by the scale of this sight. Do you recommend it if I can get it for near 7k. it has 63 on it, top doesn't work by motor anymore, and something about door rattle, I can see top drips on pas seat too, as it was raining when i looked at it. This is from a dealer, so there may be some implied warrenties and it has good tires/brakes. Tell me everything a newbie to these cars should know. Looks great black!

door rattle could be windows when they are down?
I know alot that i test drove when the top was down on the highway if you hit a bump the windows rattle alot too. It's not to bad.
If it's just the motors on the top that are dead you can have them rebuilt cheaply. The lawnmower place by me does them dirt cheap my friend took his there.
See if you can have a mecanic look at it. You would be amazed what htey find even from a dealer. Such as one I saw where the whole exhaust was duct taped on. The car was listed in excellent condition.

i fully love mine... i would highly reccomend a turbo model tho, and if you don't want it too fast leave it stock ;)
yes, the top will leak, but not bad, and when you are cruising down the road with the wind in your hair and the sun is shining, it will be all worth it. [unless you are in seattle]
the windows mar rattle a bit, my drivers side does when you shut the door, but no other times. nothing to be scared of.
i turned my motor off and do it by hand every time. it takes like 2 seconds to drop it [just don't try it over 15mph!] and 2 seconds to put it back up.
and they are as reliable as you are. treat it well and it will treat you well. if you dig into something far enough you will see more bad than good. unfortunatly we are breoght up that the bad things are far more interesting than the good things. :)

Well, my current car... A buick regal tends to have mostly good reviews (on autobytel and the like) this forum is almost soley about problems, but anyhow, yeah I have heard more bad than good about these...my dad (a gm emp.) scorned me back in 98 for looking a talons saying its a mits. they're CEO resigned in shame over quality issues, lowest quality of all automakers (not sure what years that covers though)...Did I mention my Dad is a supplier quality manager? LOL gotta love him though.

this forum mostly talks about problems because most of us only come on here to figure out how to fix problems so we can get back to enjoying our cars or to help somebody else fix a problem so they can get back to driving around trying to think of places to go just so they can drive an extra couple miles

Yeah..thats why I was looking at autobytel review, because those are normal ppl who don't ever try to fix problems... I realize this is all about fixing probs here, I am doing the same with my buick.
