Engine swap

Is there any motor you can swap with a 4.0 liter aurora v8 such as mabey a 305 small black or some other type of old engine, so i could just bypass all the computer shit in this electrical nightmare of a car

A pipe dream maybe, but I doubt the car would work, the electrical nightmare starts at the ignition and never stops.

You would need a tranny as well.

heheh, if they can fit a Series II 3800 Supercharged into a Fiero, I bet you can jam a 305 into an Aurora.

why would you want a 305? LOL, there not all that powerful, less than our 4.0. 307's were fwd i believe, unless you want to go rwd :rollseyes: which would cost you well over 50,000. there isn't even a driveshaft channel, there's one for the exhaust.

only logical engine swap choice is a 4.6, which has never been attempted

you can always go with a stand alone computer, traction control and abs wont work i dont think, and the computer costs a few grand

well I think anything could be done, with money of course, but have you seen how big these engines really are taken out of the car they're huge, you can easily fit a 350, or a lt1 engine, but if your going to go through the trouble in doing that you mind as well make it rwd.

if I had some extra time and money....I'd buy that 95 for $1k and see how that 4.6L goes in.

The only reason i ask is cause the garbage of a 4.0 liter motor that came with the car is basically shot and i recently bought a 99 honda accord. I was thinking of making this a project vehicle and when switching engines i would just scrap all of the computer and electrical garbage like abs and trac control. I was just wondering i mean if not i'll probably just scrap this piece of junk unless i can find another 4.0L to put in here cause i love the car but its just a mechanical/electrical nightmare as we all know.

GM being famous for their electrical issues...pretty much on all of their cars-- I think didn't do a bad job on the 4.0 Northstar engine. It is complicated yes, but has been a reliable motor that has given me more than I expected. I am running 157K on the original motor, with the only replacements being the battery, alternator, and AC compressor. I may have replaced the plugs too. It leaks oil and coolant, but I still love this car!!

If you want to talk about an electrical nightmare and outrageous parts costs, take a look at my 95 VW Passat. I wish I went with a Honda on this one :-)

My 2 cents on the engine swap is that it is not worth it. You be better off buying a used Northstar motor and then to the plug and play (or drop and drive).

i am up to 190k on mine, daily 60 mile commute...the engin runs great, only problem is the oil pan gasket leaking, but can't do much about that unless i want to pull the motor...

i think you have it wrong on electrical issues if you mean problems chrysler has the electrical problems but with complicated electrical systems I think they are just like any other car. With making it rwd, think about what a company did with a focus, it is rwd and has a 5.0 for not very much so if that can be then you can def put in a rwd in the aurora but I would try the 4.6 swap cause all Im thinking you have to do is bolt allthe parts back on the block because the blocks of the 4.6 and 4.0 are the same and then change out the computer with the 4.6 computer and I would think it would work out, cause I was talking to a guy from chfrb or something like that where these guys specialize in northstars he said everything swaps over but to really open up these engines is to get headers.
