Wiring an electric brake controller 97 chevy

I'm trying to wire in an electric brake controller on my 97 Chevy 1500. All wiring is complete except for taping into the "cold" side of the brake switch. Problem is I can't see it because it's above the steering column. Anyone know of another more accessable location to tap into? I really don't want to start taking apart the steering column supports.
