Has it been done?

Whats up everyone. Im new to the 300zx thing. I just sold my 71 240z and bought a n/a z32. Ive senn built vg30detts and drove my friends z32 tt. With all the money invested and the dyno sheet im not impressed. 550 to the wheels fully built with upgraded jwt turbochargers. I dont like that. By any chance anyone have any evidence on an rb motor inside a z32. If so anybody have any tips or special tricks i can use for this swap.

Yes it is 100% possible.
Not easy... But possible. I have a friend who has done that swap to RB25DET.

what would make an rb engine any better that the vg? is it that it has less displacement, or could it be a single turbo as appose to twin turbos? besides, 550 rwhp is a shit load of power.

RB26DETT's fit fine... It's the emission's problem that makes that swap not too popular.
I've seen CA18DET's in Zeds... SR's, FJ's, 2JZ's...
I was thinking about swapping in a VQ30DET from a Y33 Gloria, but the mounting wouldnt be too easy, so it wasnt worth the headache.
But it is DEFFINATELY possible, and has been done many a times before.

No i dont think hp is everything. If i thought that id be swaping a 350 or a 400 big block. I just rather build a rb just for the fact that i plan on building the motor for drag and im a strait 6 man. It will probly take 2 to 3 years but i dont want to build a motor and only get 5 to 600 horses. Ive seen a street driven skylines generate over 800 hp. For the first year i plan on driving it on the weekend. If i finish school in one year ill have a job at Found On Road Dead. That will mean alot more money for me that i dont have right now. Then ill go all out. Mad love for the vg but id rather have a rb.

I have a stock z32 90' NA 2+2. It's getting tired and will need a rebuild but I want more performance, not 600hp just good useable power on the street. High 13's or low 14's would be awesome.
Any ideas on how to get that out of an NA without cheating and using NOS
I know twin turbo is an option but it would be nice to keep orig if pos
has anyone done it

Only 500 HP? Umm...I don't know how fast of a car you want, cuz that must have been insanely fast. Also, 500-600hp isn't the max for a VG...I've seen at least one of them with 700+...and it was a CONVERTABLE single turbo conversion.

Wow...only 600 horse...this guy either has no sense of proportion (a damn kid) or is overwhelmingly blessed with monetary funds the like of which I can not imagine...
The bottom line is that once you get past 500-600 HP on either motor and start rebuilding the engine into a full race spec motor...any relation to the stock performance potential vaporizes. After that:
X HP you desire cost you X $$$
It wouldn't matter, with either engine it would just be about how much you want to spend for the power.

The internal replacement parts to gain that kind of power for the VG (and most other Nissan Engines) are $12,500+ . No shit.
It's just not practical unless you are a HARDCORE road racer... For me, 222hp works.

wow, who do you get your parts from?
Cams: $600ish depending on grind (thats the whole set though)
Springs: $14 (x24)
Forged rods: Billet $250(x6) or titanium 575(x6)
Forged pistons: $150 (x6)
Balance the stock crank and you good to go, probably some other misc parts but thats the big stuff
Having all of the work done professionally might be 12.5K with parts and labor but the parts themselves are not 5 digits.
(Numbers pulled from stillen.com and jimwolftechnology.com)

My numbers are pulled from SGPRacing.com...
Those numbers are for the FULL Jun or Tomei race build kit, recommended for ONLY top horsepower applications. Not for street use.
Check if you'd like. The price is the same for RB's and VG's.
