yeah tonight sucked ill tell you guys the story. so me and some friends are comin back from blockbuster today and this guy in this eclipse looks like he wants to race. hes pulli up next to us and shit. all the sudden he dropes back and throws it into second a floors with he passes us, pshhhh lol turbo. we pull up next to him and im like lets race ( im in the passenger seat) and hes like in that!? lol im like no he goes what do you have an im like a crx and he starts laughin. Im thinkin in the back of my head, yeah b16 bitch lol. anyways he follows me back i get my car. he wouldnt pop his hood and he wanted to race for money. so i lost all my confidence there. so we go race and i get him through first and half way through second then he just blows past me. he got 2 cars on me and stayed there. before we raced he told me he got 15 flat in the quarter. i kinda believed him because he had a stock muffler and thats generally what eclipse gst's run stock. but when we got back he said he ran 14 flat. i knew it thhoug lol. he was saying that he was running 16 pounds of boost. i dont believe him because he said he hasnt done anything to build it up and it had 130k miles lol. i dono i was pissed. glad i didnt bet though. :-/

My boy had a 95 w/ 18's on it and he ran a 14.09 on his first pass......hehe.....the second run was mine cause I paid for him to get into the track.....BOOM.....I blew a 4 inch hole in his tranny case on the line...hehe....car never moved an inch.

4/4 people (including me) that I know personally have had major problems with their near-stock Talons/Eclipses, ranging from constant brake and caliper problems, shattered trannies and transfer cases, to turned bearings, blown head gaskets (on stock boost) and their dsm pieces of shit spontaneously combusting! (see below, from Columbusracing.com).

So most of yoiu know i have a "new" car now 1990 awd talon that i bought off a friend. i was garunteed after asking repetedly that all it needed was a tranny and every replie was yes. sure enough we get the tranny in and it needs a clutch. so i spend 200 on a new clutch runs fine foir 2 hours thgen decided to quit

so now its fixed i take it out for a weekend and blow the clutch up(that was my fault tho) rickey gives me a lift home and i put a new clutch in the next 2 days

so i go to take it out for a drive i go about a day then all the suddon the car wont start. cranks over and over but wont fire. now im starting to get angery but i hold my toung, i spend another 100 on this little computer modual thingy car runs good now for about 2 days

then mny car dies again i get towed home and find out that the altanator is bad another 150 and some money for a new battery. car runs good again

brakes have been bad so i decide to change them and the belts the next day (yesterday) car runs good still so i take it out to test the brakes i get about a mile down the road leaving a stop ligh i go WOT in second and all the suddon somthing clicks and BANG!! the car jers then shuts off. i pull over start it up again it iddles liek shit

get home and turn the idle up and it runs fine i cant find anything wrong with it :confused:

so i need somthing to get to work today ran fine in the morning for a hole half a day! im leaving work about a mile down the road allt he suddon i hear some clicking from the computer the cars turns itself off anfd on a couple time then a shitload of smoke roles out from under my dash...... SOMTHINS ON FIRE! i turn the key off and coast into my drivway and let the smoke clear up.

i start the car i have no guages all i can smell is a ton of gas and alot of blue smoke from under my hood the car idles like its running on 2 cylnders and im now missing qualifying and helping my dad out at National Trails because of this shit

i have not had a drivabl;e car in weeks i was prommised a car that all it needed was a tranny and nopw im driving down the road and the comp catches on fire. as far as im concernd thsi car is dead i have no means of transportation now. this car is worthless now im stuck in a rut no vehicle no money BULLSHIT.

If I wanted a car with good gas mileage, reliability and cost effectiveness, then I would have bought a 130 hp Kia. That's really the only argument you have, which really isn't any argument at all. If you didn't know, the world's fastest DSM (8 sec 1/4) is also driven every other day to and from work.

Reliability is mostly in the owner. Sure, DSMs do require a bit more upkeep than most, but almost everyone that has bought it as a project car knew that and were ready to handle it. Just give it up already, you can't win. :rolleyes:

do you know how to spell? seriously either spell correctly or dont post... easy as that, no one wants to read that shit! and yes i do respect a 712hp civic... my friend has a hatchback that runs mid 11s and i have major respect to him... but we both know my friends civic and the 712hp civic do not have the same motor in it as it came with from the factory!!! in a honda... if you want power, you do a motor swap! in an eclipse... if you want power, you upgrade parts but still use the same motor! so by the time the honda owner spends 3 times as much as i did just to catch up to me i will be starting to pull away again!

1st gen eclipse = $1800-$2000 in mods and your running 12's

lets even say a brand new civic = $2000 in mods and your lucky if you see mid 14s!

There's a lot of misinformation floating around, but where some people in this thread have no more argument, they just make things up or throw out random insults. None of the Honda owners (please correct me if I'm wrong) in this thread have really WANTED any true information (read: to be corrected). I would like to think DSM people know more about DSM's than Honda owners, so maybe a little less resistance would be nice.

You have seen Smithy's dyno... OK so the highest power dyno you've seen on the internet is the fastest DSM in existence? Think again, certain STREET cars are making 850whp. (that's 8's) I don't think there is any comparison between Civics and DSM's in the pro street scene. If i'm wrong, I'd like to know.

Lastly, the reasons you purchased your Hondas (reliability, gas milage, even if it's FASTER STOCK) don't matter to me at all. When I'm talking about a fast car, I don't want to talk to whiny bitches about how they don't get good gas milage.
Here's a little FYI: A Honda and DSM with the same power output use the same amount of fuel. Sounds to me like good gas milage is a result of not producing any more power than my lawn mower.
As for reliability, I'm sorry that your friends had bad experiences. It was probably due to mistreating the car, not knowing how to keep it maintained (or not caring), or a previous owner with the same flaws. If it was their fault or not, I don't really care. My repair bill in all the time I have owned my car has been this:
1. $20 rear wiper motor (I tried to use mine in the winter to clear snow, it broke)
2. $1.99 1 foot of rubber hose (I replaced a leaking turbo coolant line. Wouldn't expect any of you to relate)

So you bought your car for certain reasons, high five. Those reasons don't make you any faster, and they sure aren't an excuse for being slow. Stop trying to say that they are. I don't expect to hear any more about reliability or gas milage in a racing forum.

i have a mitsu eclipse 94...and believe...they aren't all that great,,,,a true japanese car is toyota....i drive a supra, and damn....can't live without RWD....anyways, going back to the point...either mits nor hondas are good...in fact, if u think about it...none of the cars out there are good....vw had made recalls, ford too, and mit and toyota and nissan, so if u gonna call one car a POS think that ur mom's mitsubishi is crap too...and every other car...cos if cars didn't fail....then mechanics would be outta work...
