My instrument cluster is dead in my 1989 750il. All that works is the speedometer and tach. Tried the capacitor repair - cluster worked for about one week. Two questions - any idea what's wrong? Can you use
any other series cluster in a 750il? Thanks.

NO! it must a 750i cluster and of the correct production date. mother boards, etc. are availible new but are quite expensive and you have diagnose the correct component of the cluster since once purchased, you own it. AND do be careful with used clusters!! be sure you can return t for exchange as ALL E32 clusters are problematic just like yours. you can find good ones but it's getting harderas eventually they'll be all gone.

Thanks. One of the auto recyclers told me I could use a 735 0r 740, I would just have to plug it in differently. I was skeptical about that advice. I ran across one from a 750il. They want about $500 for it. I guess I'll have to pay it. Do you know if anyone repairs them? Thanks, again.

$500. sounds like the going price BUT MAKE SURE you can exchange it or return it if IT has a problem - IN WRITING ! - because failures are so common and no, i don't know of anyone who repairs them since the servicable parts are complete [expensive] boards for different functions. BEST OF FORTUNE !
