Hello people, I was just talking with a friend and we were thinking, we both just recently bought cars in the past year, i bought an 1984 Z28 camaro, and he bought a 71 chevelle. we were wondering who would win in a race.

The chevelle is a stock, 4-door, 2 barrel carburated 307
The camaro is a stock 4 barrel carburated 305.

Both are Automatic.
Who do you think would win in a race?

the chevelle is considerably heavier and the camaro makes alot less hp so it could be very close

go to the track and go at eachother

Oh, man those are both runt of the litter chevy motors. Neither is good for performace use, but I bet the Camaro would win due to the weight advantage. I'm betting you run mid 17s. But its cool, we all got to start somewhere. They are much cooler rides than Hondaz.

Tomsriv, your exactly right...neither one is a big engine, but like you said we have to start somewhere. I'm only 17 and don't have a big income but i'm doing what I can as I go. For example my dad is selling me his intake manifold, cam, carb and headers off his 350, that should give me a bit more HP ;) and they are definatly both better then HONDAS!!

what kind of race ? Depends on the length( 1/8 or 1/4), experience of the driver and type of race. Foot race ? drag race?(short dress and pumps?)The only way to know for sure is to go to a local track and find out. Please do not find out on any of the streets in my town!!!! If you try it here are some simple things to try and get an edge.

at the track:
avoid burn out pit
deflate your tires to 15psi or less
empty your trunk(spare and stuff)
learn how to start at the tree (bring up rpms foot on brake)
add octane boost
only a little gas in tank(gas wieghs 8lbs per gal)

get there as early as possible and let your car cool down, a cooler car will run faster than a hot one just driven to the track.

good luck and be safe
