Autozone says:
FLASHER
On your 1996 FORD THUNDERBIRD, the FLASHER is:
FRONT SEATING AREA, DRIVER SIDE, UNDER DASH, DRIVER SIDE OF STEERING COLUMN, MOUNTED ON SUPPORT BRACKET.

WHich is quite near the fuses in case your problem is there!

Thanks for your help, I found the flasher mounted on the far left side wall behind the dash. However, this did not fix the problem. All of the fuses are good, any ideas? I have no flashers at all and they do not steady burn as some cars do when the flasher goes bad.

Im not familiar with the 96's, but for S and G's, you might want to check the high voltage fuses in the engine compartment as well.

I am having exactly the same problems with my 1994 T-Bird. I cant find the flasher unit either.

Mine was on the left side firewall and I had to remove the lower dash pannel to see it. Haynes says its on a braket to the right of the stearing colume

I think I found my flasher unit, It looks like a relay on the left side beside and above the emaergency brake. I have checked all the fuses and the fuses in the engine compartment. Anybody have any ideas why the flashers and turn signals would just stop working?????

I could not tell from this thread if you were ever able to solve this problem. I have a 97 Bird with the same problem and added to it the Brake lights also do not work.

I have swapped out the flasher per the Chilton manual (No luck) and I have verified that I do have power to the fuse box for this circuit.

I know all three items (Hazard, Turn Signals, and BraKe lights) run on the same circuit so the problem is somewhere after the fuse but I cannot locate it.

Any thoughts?

You should have 2 separate flasher units. One for the turn signals and one for the hazards. Make sure you are checking the correct flasher.

Thanks for the tip, however, the culprit was none of the above, It was the multi-function switch located in the steering column. When it goes it effects the Flashers, Blinkers and the Brake lights.

$78 and a couple of hours and I am back on the road. Who would have thunk it?

WOW I was just going to enter that info.. mine took about 3 years to finally quit.. and when it did it ended up being the whole multifunction switch. Dead on my friend... $75.00 from Advance and about a half hour and I was back in business.
