RSX base Stick vs. Automatic

I'm fixing to get my first car and sadly any RSX type-s's are just out of my price limit. However, the base RSX's are not. That being said, would you reccomend the five speed or automatic for a first car? I know how to drive a stick but I was wondering if anyone got tired of driving one after a while and what they would reccomend consdering it's my first car. Thanks!

Manual. You have more control of when to shift and the auto sportshift on the automatic is horrible in my opinion.

I have the sports shift and I love it. After going from a manual trans, to the sport shift. I really don't think I would go back to a manual transmission. If you drive in stop and go traffic or live in an area where snow and traffic are problematic. Sports Shift. Everyone with a manual transmission or a Type S will tell you to go with the manual. Try them both yourself. You're the person that's going to drive it, so why let someone else decide for you. It like asking someone what color to get, personal choice! I don't think one is more reliable than the other. If your looking for a "Race Car", neither one of the base models (ss or manual) are.

Yes, I do have a manual. But I also know of two people that have the sportshift and they say it is horrible. I also personally drove a Mazda3 with their sport shift and I can definitely say it is terrible. Why get an automatic, to treat it like a manual? Just get the manual if you want to use sport shift all the time!

BTW, I do drive in stop and go traffic every single day. The only problem I have with driving the manual is that I get tired of staying in first and second gears all the time. :grinno:

Yes, you are correct and I agree with the statement to try it out yourself and decide what you want! :bigthumb:

But it is good to get opinions of people as well. Otherwise, what would be the purpose of a forum? :iceslolan and I did state that it was just MY opinion.

The SportShift sucks, and there is less mods for it. Get the stick.

Well, thanks a ton for everyone's posts, but I am proud to say that as of today I am officially the owner of a red 2002 RSX-S.

It's getting detailed today and they're touching up all the little nicks and stuff on the exterior. I was able to get it for $16,500 so needless to say I couldn't be happier!

Now they just need to hurry up....I don't wanna wait until 10:00 tomorrow morning!

Just looked it up at edmunds.com with your mileage and you did get a great deal. If you bought it at a dealer it would be $19,123, from a private party $17,056. So $16,500 was a steal.

Hope you plan on throwing in some mods after all that savings! :iceslolan

I got it from a dealer! Crazy, I know. I think I'm gonna upgrade some of the audio stuff first and then start working on the engine.
