95 PA Stereo removal question

I recently "inherited" a 1995 Park Avenue, and am trying to return it to tip-top shape.

The original OEM stereo (AM/FM cassette w/Tone control) display does not work, and I've purchased a replacement stereo off eBay.

The stereo I'm removing is equipped with Theft-Loc, which I know will disable the unit as soon as the power is disconnected. My question is this: Does this feature affect only the stereo unit, or will it also prevent the replacement stereo (which DOES NOT have Theft-Loc) from working?

My grandparents, from whom I'm getting the vehicle, are its second owners, and have no idea what the security code might be; I certainly don't want to have to go pay a dealership to unlock something so I can complete what is otherwise a straightforward do-it-yourself radio replacement!

just swap them, it will work.

Theftlock, I think prevents the radio from being used outside of a GM car, because the computer sends a certain signal to the radio, telling it to work.

UPDATE: The install went virtually without a hitch. Now, however, my steering wheel controls no longer function. Is this because the replacement unit is a lower model stereo than the original, or did I miss something? Is there a way around this, or should I consider repairing the OEM stereo if I want the steering wheel controls back?

I've purchased a Haynes repair manual for the car, but it seems painfully vague (covers Buick, Pontiac, Olds '85-'02). :eek7:
