B18B1 into D15B7

I have been through numerous forums and websites, I just need a simple question answered by someone with experience. I have a '93 Honda Civic LX with a wrecked D15B7 Engine, I want to swap for an Integra B18 (B18B1) Engine. The guides that I have read say it's possible without a problem, others say that it will not hook up properly. Can anyone give me a definite answer as to the ease of this swap, and any problems I may encounter... Or for those who really know what they're talking about, what engine would be best to put in (I'm looking for minimum 150 hp). I have a somewhat limited budget, and any help is appreciated. Thanks.

well i dont think anyone knows what u consider hard but heres a link that might help
http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b18cswap/swap.php
if u cant put down about 3k for the swap just get a d16 out of an ex from that year

Thanks, that site is great. & what I mean by "hard" is that, I want to swap in the best possible engine without 'modding' anything. This is the first time I will be doing this, maybe next time I can go with a bigger project. Still any input at all is much appreciated.

Maybe you should do some more research then....

Thanks vtec, I bought the 95 Integra engine today & I'll hopefully be installing it this weekend. As for you kicker, thx for your two cents. You are absolutely useless to me, but thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to comment.

When i was gonna do a b18b1 swap on my 96 civic lx , i read that everything will plug in except the read engine mount , which you have to get from a crv i believe.

well you said
I want to swap in the best possible engine without 'modding' anything.
and you were talking about swapping in a LS motor, like I said before after reading that quote above, you might want to do some more research.

Any B-series will drop right into the bay and bolt up. The B18B1 is non-vtec, like your civic, so you won't have to wire the civic for Vtec like you would with a GSR or B16A (though it's not too hard). To answer yuor question, it is about as easy and straightforward as a swap will come, and yes it will fit and work fine.

the b18c1 is the best bet for if u want to go the turbo,,n20, or supercharger path. because of its low compression, but the b18c5 (type rrrrrrr!!!))) that is stock more power but already has a high compression so more is a bad idea. so you could go n/a

The LS (B18B1 has a lower c/r than the GSR, 9.2:1 to 10.0:1. It can generally handle more boost on a stock block if tuned properly than a GSR can, 12psi to around 8psi. In general, most people consider it the best stock honda motor for boost. Use the search function and you'll find much more info. There are mahy threads on AF about this.

Thanks for your posts / Info. however, I bought the B18B1, the wiring is the same, however:
- one mount is different
- It does NOT bolt up to the trannie
- you need the proper ECU
- & more crap... swap is not as easy as it sounds.
Final Descision -> I put a newer D16B7 in. I'll have to get a faster car later.

im about to do my swap. the hardest thing is the wiring. im trying to wire up an obd1 engine into an obd2a car. the rest is easier than baking cookies

Easier than baking cookies if you have the $$$ & the resources to buy & get parts.

That's cuz you didn't do the PROPER RESEARCH...AS KICKER TOLD YOU TO DO.
You need more than just the motor if it's a different motor than what came in your car. With any swap, you need a)the motor b)the ecu for that motor (wiring harness will help too) c) the tranny d)the axles. Now, most of this crap will bolt right in there...and with the proper tranny for the motor, the motor bolts to the tranny, and the tranny will mount up. You use the mounts from the LS, not the mounts from the EX. It you did the research, you'd realzie it is easy in swap terms...almost everything bolts right up, you just need to get all the right parts and research how to do it before you try it, something you did do.
YOu bought only the motor, not the tranny and ecu...which is a problem. IF you got the right tranny and ecu...you'd find
a) IT DOES BOLT UP TO THE PROPER TRANNY, THE B18B1 TRANNY
b) THIS TRANNY AND MOUNT WILL DROP AND BOLT RIGHT INTO THE CAR, AND THE REST OF THE MOUNTS SHOULD FOLLOW SUIT
c) OF COURSE YOU NEED THE PROPER ECU...YOU ALWAYS WANT THE PROPER ECU FOR THE SET-UP. It's commen knowledge to get the tranny, ecu, and motor for the swap. That's why it's a swap...you swap one drivetrain for another.
This swap is as easy as any swap will be for a car, and in that regard is as easy as it sounds (from a swap standpoint) if you do the research and know what you need. You didn't do the research, which is your first problem. That being said, if you didn't even do the research right, then swappin it in yourself probably isn't a good idea if that was your plan, as you obviously didn't research on how to properly swap a motor in the first place.
What you listed on here as "problems" is nothing new to most of us...that's just commen knowlegde as what needs to be done as part of the swap. Now if you didn't know that, that's why you should have researched it first...just as kicker said. You may think he gave the least helpful advice on here.
In reality, his advice was the best for you, and things would have been easier if you'd taken his advice. Next time, research and figure out everything BEFORE you try...what you list as reasons why it's "not as easy as it sounds" are commen knowlegde as things that are just part of a swap. If you'd researched, you'd realize this is commen as part of a swap and really not that hard by comparison...as most of it will bolt up.

how can a d series tranny bolt on to a b series motor? it cant. only same engine series parts are interchangable, and still not always. for example a b16 differential is different from a b18c1. the b16 one is smaller. anyway i though u were getting a complete swap otherwise i would of told u what u needed to know

I think most of us would have explained it better and been of more help if we had known he wasn't talking about a complete swap, just the motor. If he had told us he was thinking only the motor would work, we could have explained to him he was wrong as, as you said, what was needed.
That's why I said Kickers Adivce to him was the best....do more research...it obviously would have helped.
