I've had my GSR for about a year and sometimes use Premium but not much because Ive heard that just because it says it needs it doesnt mean it really does, this was from various performance shops and Honda and Acura dealers. What do you think?

as to whether it absolutely NEEDS IT, no.

You can run your gsr w/out premium fuel, although you will experience some lost power, and some knocking/pinging.

i would suggest premium fuel for all dohc vtec engines.

yea , the car runs really shitty if you use less than 91 octane

its an OBD-2 car which is designed to run on regular.

You will see increased performance (mainly response) from running higher octane.

I believe GSR's are 10 to 1 Comp which is def ok to run regular....do yourself a favor....use regular til the prices come down

so with regular would it be running below its normal performance levels or is premium just going to make it a little faster?

Yeah smoothness, I can notice it in my car. Theres only 87 octane and 93 octane in mexico and I can tell the difference in the feeling of the engine, not the fastness, although its probably a tad faster with the 93 octane.
