B16 or Supercharged SOHC VTEC

i have a b16 in my car with 4-1 header and crower stage 2 cams. i have the chance to get a fully rebuilt single vtec with a brand new vortec supercharger, motor has never been in a car since put together for $1600. i was wondering if you all think i should keep the b16 or go with the single cam. the single cam has been dynoed and makes 220hp+ dont remember exact #'s. but let me know if you think its a good deal to sell the b16 swap and get the single cam.

That is a good deal, if I were you and had the extra money, i would buy that engine, and buy another shell to put it in, but i guess i would prolly swap the engines cause the supercharged sohc vtec is makeing a lot more power then your b16 is

yeah i agree with korn, buy a beater w/ a blown engine and drop it in there.

keep the B16......much more efficent and reliable....

why not take the $1600 and use that on the b16?
take a look at this dyno making 189.6hp with ported head and CTR cams

Ya, $1600 on your B16 could be just as fast and more reliable. Look for a B20, or GSR or even an LS block. What pistons are you using? Your cams would really benifit from more compression, and why not put more compression and a bigger block on? It would be fast and the realiabiltiy wouldn't be as qestionable.

well the problem is i dont have the $1600 right now to just buy the motor b/c i have a 4dr shell that could use a motor. i was going to sell the b16 swap, mounts, ect and get the single cam and build that even more.

keep the b16 be like EVERYONE else.
Get the z6/y8 *whichever it is* supercharged motor be very original, smoke lot's of B series car's.
Left E - how is a 13+ year old b16 more reliable than a motor that is alittle more new and rebuilt?
Beyond Imagination - unless he takes his head and get's it ported by the same guy theres no way he would make 189whp with a ported head and cams on an otherwise stock b16 even then he would have spent close if not more than 1600$ on work and still be slower than the supercharged single cam.

i was hinting at the fact that a b16 has potential with a couple mods. i'm not saying that a d16 doesn't have potential but since he already has the motor why not keep that and work upon it. d series engines and b series engines are both good but if the choice was mine i'd choose b over d. k over b. it's simple to see that each generation of motors was designed to be better than the last. what would happen if he supercharged his b16? probably faster than a supercharged d16.

yea but were not talkin about he has this much money, he's obviously working out a deal type thing. I would deff go with the supercharged d16. he could always upgrade pulley's up the boost do this and that and it would be a bad ass little single cam that ripped on b series all day long and he could actually brag about it unlike some people who think their d16 with i/e will beat a stock b series. I like both motors but with the case at hand I would go with the d16 right now.

do you think he'll get $1600 for his b16 though? i paid $1000 for a **COMPLETE** b16 swap a month ago. if he sold his d16 for $1600 he's left with no money to do mods anyways. so in the end he's stuck with a supercharged d16 or his b16. both good motors. and everyone has their opinions on this. i say b16. you say d16. so pretty much it comes down to personal preference.

there are some dumbass people in this world.
A friend of mine has a beat b16 that he's selling to some ricer for 1,600$ actually and it's not even complete.
I sold basically 3 rota slipstreams in ok condition for 250$ one was bent like hell and he still wanted them

and i bet most of these people are kids. i'll even admit it i've bought products that were appealing to me at the time but has never seen a day on my car. just gets piled in the garage that i find usually a couple years down the road. if i wanted it back then i didn't care how much it costed. a lil smarter now i guess. :)

take the 1600 and get itr bottom end or a gsr bottom end. Throw some ctr pistons on it and upgraded rods. Eagle will be a good choice. That set up alone will get you into the 13s easily.

a supercharged d16 and an all motor b16 with the same horsepower.... the d16 will win.

With that set up i just mentioned is cheaper than 1600. So with the money left over , he can save it for a rainy day. I dont think that supecharged sohc will get him into 12's "easily"

well 220hp dynoed ... from that information it would go 12's
it takes about 200whp for an integra to see 12's

I've seen many turbo'd sohc hatches running low & mid 13s on 200whp and hardly any running 12s. It takes a little more than 200whp to get a porky integra into the 12s.

in a past issue of import tuner there was an all motor gsr integra that dynoed 203hp I believe and ran a 12.9

12.9 is easy with 200whp, I've seen faster with less.
ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT CAR. Not the motor. The CRX I'm thinking of was crazy light, and was complete drag car, but it wasn't making more than 170whp (thats being generous). It was so light though you could pick the back end of it right up.. I used to have a pic of a guy I know picking it up.

There was a civic hatch 90 dx all gutted out, lexan window's and slick's, his motor dynoed like 150 some whp and he ran like mid 12's.

a friend of mine went 12.8 in his crvtec at 198whp, but other friends who are turbo b16 arent in the 12s but in the mid 13s
i think about whether or not he should get the d16 is all about him and what he wants. like how fast does he watn to go ? is the d16 built at all or is it just rebuilt ? does he want a street engine or a more track egine ? lots of factors we dont know
