Coilovers good/bad

I found some coilovers on ebay for 50$ buy it now, and I was wondering if anyone has ever used any cheap coilovers or anything and would anyone be able to tell me whats good and bad about it.. thanx

It's $50 coilover sleeves. How well do you expect them to feel and perform? Probably about 800 times worse than my Teins, that's for dang sure! Also expect to blow out your shocks in no time flat if they are the stock ones.

Coilover sleeves are junk to begin with (exception of Skunk2 and Ground Controls, but I mean seriously, $50 for a set? That's just a waste of money waiting to happen.

so what would be the best suspension setup and how much would it be? O ya and i wanna drop my car a lil cuz im gunna be drivin around wit stock engine for a long ass time till i get my b18c swap..o ya and its for a 95 civic

I have a 95 civic and i bought some pretty cheap coils and yes I dropped to its balls and guess what I didnt take no ones advice b cuz i wanted my shit low with out paying an arm and a leg and it lokked tight.

guess what i fuked my suspension up cough up the dough unless in 3 to 6 months you want to buy new tires $350 bucks new axels $100 per side new Struts $350 all around take my advice or suffer later these guys aint bull shitting get the money and do it right.

KaMaKaZiPyRo The best suspension would be something like a set of Moton threaded body shocks (for height adjustability) and a set of TRUE race springs (super stiff) to go with them. Mind you the shocks cost $1200 EACH. ;) Your next best and easier to get would be a set of Tein N1 dampeners and the race springs that go with them. I think that setup would cost you about $2500 or so for everything. There is not real "BEST" suspension since what works for me won't nessacerily work for you.

I'll offer a few suggestions in terms of setups to consider...

H&R Cup Kit ($500-$650)

Ground Control coilover sleeves ($289) over a set of KYB AGX shocks (~$400) so $700 for that whole package

Ground Controls over a set of Koni Yellow shocks ($500-$600 a set) so about $800-$850 for that setup

Tein Basic Kit ($600-$750) The Tein kit is a real true full coilover setup with total height adjustability.

If you don't need height adjustability and just want to flat out lower, then get either a set of Eibach Pro Kit, Neuspeed Sports, H&R, or Tein S.Tech lowering springs, and pair them to the KYB AGX or Koni Yellow, or even Tokico Illuminas will work fine too for shocks.

yea make sure u stay away from them cheap ebay coilovers. if you wanted to get the coilovers so that u can have a low ass ride, why not just get some springs that will drop your car about 2 inches. i have a set of neuspeed race springs on my car and the drop is very good. the drop is about 2 to 2.5 inchs. my tires are level with the fenders. If u really want to get coilovers, get some skunk 2 or ground control coilovers. both give a decent ride and are reliable. make sure that u get some aftermarket shocks when u install the springs. the stock springs will blow out and will give a horrible ride. i can vouch for that. i had my springs on stock shocks for over 2 months and the ride was very bad. any little pothole i went over felt like shit! it's even worse when u have chicks in your car and ur ride is shitty like that. now my ride is sweet so i have no worries about the chicks complaining =)

I'm very new to the suspension thing...but was wondering, how low you can go with wheel sizes, and what springs/shocks are a good setup with 16", and 17". I just bought another Si, and wanted to know what kind of a setup. I have heard 17" are to rough, and you want smaller for racing anyways...any suggestions would be great. Or even better, what sizes you have and suspension combo currently on your car, and how it rides - honestly.

i woud go with 15" wheels if i were u. they will look good on a lowered ride and are better for racing.
im gonna be getting a set of 15's this summer and i have neuspeed race springs with bilstein HD shocks.

i would recommend getting a good set of coilovers (i.e. Eibach ground controls or Skunk 2 coilovers) if your gonna be doing some serious racing and your gonna be running some big slicks. your gonna need coilovers to raise your car if u wanna put some big slicks on it.

the car just got delivered. It looks as though it already has coilovers on it, and a camber kit of some kind. Pretty dirty, but I am going to try and wash it off and get a pic on here so I can get some help. I have no idea at all about suspension parts. It actually has 19"s on it. Well one, the other 3 were stolen. Think that screwed up the shocks or anything? it has like maybe at MOST an inch of space on that back 19 between the wheel and fender. LOOK IN MY GALLERY FOR THE PICS IM TALKING ABOUT. I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET THEM IN HERE. Sorry...

get rid of those 19's. ur ride is gonna feel like shit with them. if your going for more show than go, get a set of 17's but if your gonna race the car, get some 15's.

Leave it at 7. You could rpobably go 7.5, but your wheels may not be able to turn to full steering lock, or they may rub the inside of the wheel well when you turn the wheels sharp. A friend of mine has some 16x7 wheels with Advan DNA GP tires (they are basically Yokohama ES100's) in a 215/45 16 size. 215 width is pretty much the max width you can put on a Civic as far as tires go, before you start having serious clearance and rubbing issues. I'm getting some 16x7 Rota Grid wheels soon, and will be fitting them with some 215/45 16 Falken Azenis RT-215
tires. They have a tall sidewall compared to other tires, so the fit should be interesting. I maay opt to put ES100's on them instead if I can find them cheaper or as cheap as the Azenis's.

i am a fan of 15 inch wheels. i started out with a set of 17x7 wheels and didn't care for them a whole lot. they don't really make the ride all that much worse except for over the little bumps that you normally wouldn't feel. things like little cracks in the road, etc. 17x7 wheels are also going to weigh more than a 15 inch wheel would.

i had 17x7 motegi wheels, they were 24 pounds each, I now have 15x6.5 rota slip streams. the difference is noticeable both in acceleration and stopping. lighter = better by far!

now onto the suspension. i have a friend who has ground control coil overs and kyb agx shocks. the coilovers have integra spring rates and his car has a nice firm ride, i like it a lot. I also used to have ground controls on my race miata with koni yellows. i am a big ground control fan, they don't cost a whole lot and its really nice to be able to adjust your ride height at will (note, change in ride height will affect both toe and camber on your car, when you change ride height also make sure to adjust the toe and camber settings accordingly)

What tire size do you use then? sidewall measurements and such. is the tire as big as the stock ones? or low profile or something that would be like on a bigger wheel? I'm still trying to learn about wheel/tire measurements. And try to find a set I like. My car had a 19 on it, it looked nice, but had to ride like crap. So I am shooting for a middle of the road, show/go. If I went with 16's, what tire size would I want?

I am in search of a suspension setup again, and was seaching around on here about coilovers. Ran into this thread, and thought hey this guy's problem sounds just like mine. Turned out, it was me.

Anyways, got some wheels - went with some 17" motegi's just because I added probably 50 pounds in sound deadening material, and at that rate I better stick with show. I'm going to go all JL Audio for the system, but still need replacement coilovers or springs whats the difference except ability to adjust? I was reading in a book that coilovers are not good period. So what's the deal? The ones on their are some cheap shit, and I need to find a replacement - camber kit too, one of the boots is torn, and I just don't trust whoever had this car before me. I think i'm gonna sell it when I am done and get a Chevy Silverado :lol2:
