Ok so today i pull in my driveway and supposedly my fixed oil leak isnt. i think this cause i see smoke coming from underneather by the exhaust under the doors. then i look under and see a dripping from where the trans and the oil pan are next to each other. hmmm? what could this be??? help me please.
Repairs since i got this car:
-oil leak drowned my alt.
-fixed alt
-water pump
-timing belt
-added thermostat
-new starter
-oil pressure switch
-valve cover gasket
-vaccum hose in back of engine
-gas line in front of engine
-unclogged an injector so now i actually run with 6 cyl. not 5
and i believe that is it. The car is 91 2+2 auto with 100k
What is worth me doing to it and how much? How can i keep a Z for myself cause i am now in love with the cars.

where does it look like it is coming from?

well from my quick view it was dripping more off the trans where its on the engine than the oil pan

oil pan gaskets? or i think the head has a tiny one my mechanic said but he said its not to worry.

yeah, i was thinking it might be the gaskets on your oil pan. it is most likely some gasket.

thats what im fearing. Do you think it would be worth it? or should i try to sell and hope to get another one sometime soon? see i love z's since i got one. its a black on black 2+2 with a greddy front end and its looks great since i just got it painted. Do i sell or do i just keep repairing? aslo, know of any good shit cars i could buy so i dont have to make this an every day driver?

depends on how much money you want to dump into it. me, i couldn't get rid of my car. i am too attached to her now. it is kind of like a dog, there are other dogs like yours, but nothing can seem to replace your dog. (i don't know if you can relate, but it seems like a good example to me). if i was in your position, i probably would keep repairing.

ahh you are a bad influence haha. im in the same position. i wan tto sell and get new, but id rather waste my money after awhile and send it to SGP for a new race engine and trans... sounds good to me lol.....but anyway i can totally relate. now thanks to you i want to keep it "if i was in your position, i probably would keep repairing." haah thanks man, take care. good luck with yours

Sounds like it could be the rear-main seal.... $600 for labor at the least! The seal is only like $16....

Yeah i knew that the seals were cheap and that the oil pan has two. Just sucks cause i saw the mechanics cd and saw how to change it. so yeah i might as well pull the engine and rebuild haha

after viewing your list of repairs already done, i say keep it. some of that stuff aint cheap, ya know. most cars with 100k on the engine leak, and you would be surprised how well a leaking engine works. until you have the money to send the car to a shop (i dont recomend doing an engine seal yourself), just check the oil pretty often, and dont run the car hard, that will wear the seal out pretty damn fast.

yeah, ive been going pretty easy cause i think i need some engine mounts and trans mount. im gonna shop around for some prices and hopefuly find something. i wish i had 10k to spend and send it away to sgp

This is kind of late but yeah its probably the rear main seal between the engine and trans. Zs are known for it. You can replace it just by dropping the trans, its not that hard. But you do need a book and some tools and a little know how so...save you money I guess.
Yeah...
Anyway. If I had the money I would send my whole car down in a crate to Jim Wolf with nothing but a tag on it
HP: 1000
Price: Whatever it takes
:D

lol. That rules. Deep pockets, have we?
SGP is the racing company in Texas that specializes in Zs that I recommended in another thread...I think that's where you saw it, viadrift.
There's another place in GA called Z1 Motorsports that's supposedly pretty good. They specialize specifically in Z32s like SGP does. (SGP also does other makes and models, but I mean they only specialize in the Z32 Z...they're also starting to carry quite a few parts for the Z33.)

Deep pockets, have we?
Have you seen my name?
That part about waiting to get the engine in...
...that because I got to save money for the ball bearing turbos (3500), 555cc injectors (180 a piece), new ecu (700), oversized intercoolers (1000), Profec B boost controller (? but alot), polished heads (alot) and extrudahoned intake pelnums (700). And any connecting hardware and odds and ends that are needed along the way.
If all I had to do is drop that thing it would have been in a few days after I got the new engine.
I have shallow pockets and a deep wish list. It is proving to be a problem.
But hey, what else is new? :)

How's that saying go? "Champagne tastes but beer budget." Something like that. I have cheap scotch budget right now and there's not a bar in town that will let me start a tab...fucking sucks. At least you guys HAVE NICE CARS! I'll post a pic of what I'm driving sometime. You'll laugh your asses off. Pieces of my body work include, not only duct tape, but also ply wood. Hey...at least the air works...kinda...if it's on, it'll kill the engine at idle...BUT IT BLOWS COLD!!!
I'd give my right nut for what's in my sig...but black...

haha to help me afford a new one for me to mod you can buy mine, i put too much in but if i make it back, buy a cheap shit one and send it out and spend the same amount ill be happy lol

06-10-2004, 08:38 PM
That didn't make much sense, man. But.....anyway.....I probably would if I didn't know I'd probably have to spend tons of money on it to keep it running. All I want is a Z that runs good. That's all....I don't care what it looks like cuz I'll fix cosmetic shit later...I don't care about all that shit. Function before form.

06-10-2004, 09:24 PM
thats definitely how i am, i put some much in it to make it run good now i have no room for fun. I was saying as a joke buy mine and ill use the money to buy one, if i can find it, with a blown engine and spend the same amount i did on this one to get it top notch... but i wouldnt sell the one i have now, im having too much fun. became attached
freakonaleash1187
06-10-2004, 09:32 PM
i couldn't really sell mine either, i have become too attached too. but if you handed me a tt in good condition, then that would be hard choice.
longlivetheZ
06-10-2004, 10:13 PM
I used to be very picky...I'd only want a black TT 5-speed....now I'm actually to the point where I'll take just about anything...usually...depends on my mood. Not like it matters anyway....
freakonaleash1187
06-10-2004, 10:52 PM
i always see a z as a z. either it is n/a or tt. yeah, the tt is nice, but if you get a n/a, it is still a z car.
longlivetheZ
06-10-2004, 11:15 PM
Yea, but I just hated being asked "is it a turbo" 29385492387429347234 times a week when I had my 2+2 and having to say no and watch as people immediately lose interest. I want the best...but I'm getting to the point where I'll settle for whatever.
freakonaleash1187
06-10-2004, 11:17 PM
yes, i have that same problem. people lose interest when they here it is a n/a. but most of the time i can just look at them and laugh at their crappy car. yeah, maybe it isn't as fast as a tt, but hey, it is faster than your car.
