ok when it's in neutral the engine will rev easily to 7 grand(by the factory tach). But when in gear the motor hits what seems like a rev stop at like 6,000. Is this normal for a dx motor or do i have the wrong distributor or something. i bought the car not running it's got the head of my std on it so i'm not sure how it ran before. timiing is advanced 5 degrees but it did it even worse at 0 degrees.

that doesn't sound right, I can easily get mine up to 6600 driving (using aftermarket tach)....

Might be the rev limiter, but not sure.

the ecu has to be limiting the rev. chip or swap the ecu and your good an the different rev limists or play with msd related products.

why would you rev your motor to 7K sitting still? :wtf:

And isn't 6k enough? the engine makes max HP right about there anyway, so anything over 6K is not really helping you anyway.

i don't do that all the time i just reved it to 7 grand once to see where the limiter was in nuetral. And yes peak power is at like 6000 but if you can get it a little past that when you hit the next gear you'll be a little higher in the rpm range which means you'll be right back in the power band. Besides that though, there's something wrong with the motor even at like 5,500 in second there's some kind of miss, but it has brand new plugs and wires, i guess i'll check the cap today. I'm swapping to MPFI pretty soon so i'll get the Si ecu when i do that and see what happens.
