Adding a cd player to a 94 1500

I own a 94 Silverado, with the radio sitting directly above the A/C controls, and the casette player off to the right of the A/C.

I was wondering what the easiest way to replace the casette with a cd-player would be. I'm sure the easiest would just be to take out both the casette and radio, and then just add a cd-player, but I don't like the idea of a big gaping hole in the dash.

Is it possible to make the cd-player override the normal radio, or would I just have to replace it?

They make a cubby hole like thing to go back in the place of the radio control. I just had a Kenwood MP3/Sirius radio put in my truck last weekend, and it doesn't look too bad. Where my old radio control was is now a place to put CDs.

You can leave the control if you like, but it won't work and i think that looks just plain stupid, but to each his own.

Now you could go the CD Changer route, and keep your factory radio control and cassette (I did this about 3 years ago and was satisfied), but it won't sound no where near as good as a in-dash CD player. It doesn't sound bad, but you just won't believe the difference.

Well, here's the thing. I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but oh well.

The previous owner of my truck used it as a show truck. Of course he modified the dash as well. It's nothing big, but there are a lot of metal plates on the dash, including over the instrument panel, around the casette, and over the top of the A/C and radio. Not sure where I would get another piece of metal like the ones in it, as they have an odd scratched up pattern in them, so I can't really replace the plate with another one. I guess the cd holder idea would work, and I could just cut that plate in half..

The whole panel there with the tape player, eq if it has one and the two air vents pops off. You can get a color matched one from stereo shops or even Best Buys install bays to put your new cd player in that hole. You will also need a wiring harness adaptor and possibly an antenna adaptor. Pretty easy on those trucks.

I'm not worried about mounting the cd-player itself... I'm worried about covering up the hole left from taking out the old radio with a matching metal plate now.

the cubby hole thing that the 1st poster was talking about will fit perfectly and look factory....if your existing factory radio fits in it then the cubby will fit fine.
