can an aem bypass fit an injen cai? and can the intake be driven in rain?

No and yes it can, problems only arise when submerged in water.

is the performance gain by the injen vs aem worth risking no bypass? and how effective is the shield by injen

how tough is it to fix the problems that come from hydrolocking?

The Injen CAI has no shield, and the Bypass on the AEM gives gains equal to the SRI, but without heatsoak.

How hard to fix hydrolock? Extremely - it seizes the engine.

Hmmm never heard of that before. Thanks

anyone know how effective the injen splash shield is?

Well, I don't know about how effective the shield is against rain for a CAI, but I have seen that the Injen SRI does come with a heat shield that is supposed to prevent heat from going through the filter.

The shield that is posted here seems to wrap around the air filter and I would think that it would restrict the air flow due to the closeness. I personally wouldn't buy it for an SRI. It might be useful, though, for a CAI in wet conditions and I would probably get it in that case.

I agree with mmontO. As far as the SRI heat shield is concerned- any gains by means of lowering temp (probably negligible anyway) would be negated by decrease in air flow. As far as the CAI is concerned, I wouldn't worry about gimmicky splash guards and things. I'd even be on the fence regarding the bypass, to be honest. Just avoid submerging the filter element (it's not THAT hard). I mean, how many times have you actually driven through ridiculously deep water? If the answer is 1 or more, youre an idiot to begin with and deserve hydrolock! Normal rainfall (non-flood conditions) will not affect your CAI.

Well, what if you just happen to be driving in a hurricane and you get horizontal rain hitting your filter? :iceslolan

It's possible up here in MD, you know. Just had one, was it last year?, and it was pretty windy!

Of course I'd have to be an idiot to drive around in those conditions! :loser:

Try OK where it can be bright and sunny and then 30 minutes later you're running for your basement because there's a tornado less than a mile away.

We had one of those too in the last couple of years. It tore up the University of Maryland at College Park and went through Laurel. Man that was so weird seeing all the college kid's cars flipped upside down and on top of each other. :dogpile:

Well, if your car is upside down or caught in a tornado...I'd say hydrolock would be the least of your problems.

The sun also shines really bright during pouring rain here. Man, what a frickin crazy state I live in.
