I just blew the bearings and the crank in my 98 gsx... i was wondering what it takes to do the cyclone swap and if it is a direct swap.... i found this one... http://www.totaljdm.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Engines.displayenginespecs/item_num/JDMMITSU4G63T/4G63_jdm.htm and i was wondering if it will work or not... please any help will be appreciated!!!

The cyclone motor only has 1 difference: The intake manifold. If you want a real motor, get a stock or built 6 bolt from 90-92 turbo DSMs. Any aftermarket manifold will outperform the cyclone, and the 1g is bigger than your 2g anyway.

The cyclone motor only has 1 difference:

technically two, The ECU for the engine is different also. but you knew that;)

Will the 6 bolt motor fit a 96 GSX tranny?

I have been reading on here that 95 and above motors suck, I just talked to a guy that sells JDM motors, he tells me that 95 above motors are strong motors. All I want to do is make sure I dont blow a couple of G's on a bad motor. This guy also told me I would not be able to put a 92 to 94 motor in my car.

93-99 motors (7-bolts) are just as good as a 90-92 motor. (6-bolt) The only real difference is, that the 7 bolts are more likely to develope crankwalk and crap out on you. Whereas the 6 bolts have never had a problem with crankwalk. That guy that told you you couldn't put a 6 bolt into your car was wrong. You can put a 6 bolt in and rewire the cam angle sensor and it'll work just fine. Also the 6 bolts are a little more efficient than the 7 bolts. Hope that helps ya... Oh yeah, I left you a message in the thread about evo8s Crimsin. Check it out...

he lied to you. check your PM's i just sent you a link on how to do a 6-bolt swap. also they switched to the 7-bolt motor mid year in '92. so this guy is talking out of his ass. secondly the 7-bolt motor is a good motor. is it as strong as a six bolt, no. but would i go through the hassle of swapping a perfectly good motor out becuase i am afraid of the dreaded "crankwalk" hell no. crankwalk can happen to ANY motor. it happened to the 7-bolt more often, but is in no way a common occurance. hope that helps.

I was pretty sure that they did it over the 4th of july weekend in '92, that was when the normal, illinois factory would retool for the new model year. but i might be wrong it could have been '93. but i am fairly sure it was '92. :dunno:

I found it... I was wrong...

1992

* Non-popup headlights introduced on all models.
* The first AWD Lasers were introduced.
* Few (or no) ECUs have EPROMs.
* ABS now available with LSD.
* The engine changes from the 6-bolt version to the 7-bolt version in April.
* Second and final year of the Galant VR-4 - 1000 sold in the American market.

Looks like it was in April of 92.

Here's the link if anyone is interested.

my bad, I was a little over 2 months off. i think that it was kinda weird they made the switch in april. i dont doubt it though. everything i had read so far said that they always retooled over the 4th, oh well. thanks for the clarification.
