Instrument Panel/Fog Lights

Hey All,

I new to this forum and have a bit of a problem with my '98 Elantra SE. A couple weeks ago now my fog lights stopped working intermittently, then one day they just went out completely and took out my instrument panel lights at the same time. Now, needless to say it is quite hard to see my speedometer and such when driving at night. I checked the fuses and didn't see any problems there. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Munque

have you done any mods at all?

its kinda weird how the two have nothing to do with each other. you might have two seperate problems. did you check the engine bay fuses too? are any other illuminations out?

No mods done at all yet. I am 99% sure that the problems are related because as my fog lights started to flicker out so did my instrument cluster lights. Also, after having looked at a wiring diagram on hmaservice.com I noticed that both the fog lights and instrument cluster run through the tail light relay. Last night my tail lights went out as well. I am assuming that the relay was maybe partially blown and that is why my fog light and instrument cluster lights were gone and now it is completely fried and that is why I no longer have tail lights. Has anyone ever had to replace a tail light relay before?

Thanks again,

Munque

After closer inspection of that wiring diagram I noticed exactly what I was looking at and the relay is really really easy to replace. I just tried switching my tail light relay with my horn relay and everything now works but my horn. So, needless to say tomorrow I will be takin' a trip to my local crappytire store and pickin' me up a new relay for my horn.

How did you get access to the tail light relay? I have a 2001 elantra, and the relay is on the back of the fuse box in the passanger compartment and I can not figure it out how to get access to it?

thanks. J

it should be in the engine bay fuse box. they are tiny black boxes.
