i just got myself my first car :) its a 90 gs integra w/ a whopping 208k miles on it, I wanted to know what kinda oil should i put in it ? im new to the whole modding engines scene and since it has so many miles, what should i do to ensure it'll last me some time ?

I am new to this stuff also, but I recently had a discussion about oil on this same forum. I started using synthetic without any problems but considering the mileage on his car won't synthetic cause the old seals to leak?

It would help to know what kind of oil has been put it in it. If it has previously used fully synthetic then go ahead, but if your teg has been running on just regular oil then there are probably deposits in your cylinders and using fully synthetic oil could possibly cause bad things to happen. I bought my teg w/113k on it and had no idea about the oil so just put in some partially synthetic castrol and its seems to be doing fine.

More importantly is the viscosity of the oil. Reason being with so many miles, oil consumption due to ring wear, guide wear, gasket leakage, will be higher. If your changing it every 3000 to 4000 anyway, conventional oil will work just fine. However, if you have problems passing emissions the synthetic will help there. I had to due just that for the very same reason. Also, you can go 2x as long with the synthetic, so it not really 4x the cost of conventional, and you get better protection over twice the period. Again viscosity is key. Id recomment 10-40 in the summer, 5-30 winter. You should notice better response and acceleration.

Nah, since you already used the 5-30, keep it. Just check the level and if you see more then a quart used over 2000miles, you may want to use 10-40 next time. Unitl then, if you do use more then a quart over 2000 mils, just add another one. Chace are your burning some, and leaking some. The thicker oil reduces both of those, and adds compression, which means moe power, allbeit not always noticable power. Maybe a tenth at the track. Oh, and blends are fine too. Agian if you change it evey 3 or 4k anyway, your only getting better protection. You can leave it in for 5 or 6K and still be fine, but hey for 20 or 25 bucks, why chance it. Older cars more often then not, contaminate the oil more quickly anyway. So 4 to 5K is tops in my opinion.

I've got a B18B1 in my civic, anyone know what the stock recommended oil was, 5w30 like most hondas? Can I run a 10w40 or 10w30 w/o trouble? I use synthetics only.
