Engine doesent hold the car

Is it normal for when the car is in gear for it to roll. All the standard cars and trucks i've seen you can put them in gear and they will hold themselfs, are hondas differant? my 89 HF will roll away in first or reverse.

Cause your compression is crap. Your HF did not have much to begin with and all the miles it probly has on it has worn the ring allowing air to pass by. Then you get a motor that will trun easy and in gear it will spin.

If I let my car run, and ease the clutch out while its in gear, it rolls...is that normal? :icon16:

run a compression test... and check your clutch.

Mines used to do that but I changed my rear brakes and now it stays parked. With the car in second (I never put it in first) and emergency brake up, it doesn't roll anymore. I say make sure your shoes are replaced or adjusted.

Yeah it has 183,000 on it, I was just wondering if they did when they were new. Or if this was normal.

I park my car in first gear and it holds it 98% of the time. My rear brakes need to be replaced, so I tend to not use my e-brake unless I have to (park on an unusually steep hill and the engine isn't enough to hold by itself.)
What condition is your clutch in ? When you let out the clutch pedal, can you feel the engine turning (or open the hood and see it)?
Once you've confirmed whether or not the engine itself is spinning with the car, maybe we can keep guessing. If the compression is so poor on the car that it moves in 1st or reverse, I'd be surprised that it runs at all...or that you'd still get 48MPG ;)

I also think you're engine's compression doesn't provide enough resistance to hold the car.

Yeah im sure that the engines turning. Cause the car moves with the engine, you know it moves fast till it gets on a compression stroke then it goes slow then fast after the compression leaks off.
