Hi All,
I have a 2004 1500 4x4 with the 5.7L. I'm still getting a nasty clunking sound when going from drive to neutral, and reverse to park. Dealer says that it's just play in the tranny. Anyone have any suggestions on a resolution to the problem, or is it really normal.

sounds like to much back lash in the rear end between the ring and pinion

There's a body wrapped around the driveshaft. Take his belt off and the clunk will stop.
I don't know. This is the second time I've heard this and both the reasons were that it's "normal".
I'd worry about it when the truck stops being able to move itself. If it's not causing a problem, why worry about it?

If its a 2004 why not take it back to the dealership and have it fixed. You can't tell me your warranty is up already!?!?

The dealer won't fix it because he said the dealer said it was normal.

Have you checked your U-Joints?

I have a '03 2500 w/Hemi 41000m. I have had the valve body replaced and both u-joints on main driveshaft.

It really does sound like a U-joint. My '03 2500 hemi 4x4 has had the rear u-joint in pieces at about 38,000 miles. It is at 55,000 now and it needs the front one done before scatter.
