Suburban Quit

I am in the middle of nowhere ( really ) and on my way here my 93 Sub 4WD 3/4 Ton with 454 quit ONE time.
I was pulling a long grade with a heavy load, in 3rd gear. The temp gauge went higher than ever , but not to the red zone, about to the 3/4 mark.
When I leveled off and eased off the gas it died- no warning lights or anything.
I pulled off and stopped and it started back up and I finished my trip to here and have not had a problem since.
Of course this is the first time without my factory service manuals so I don't know where to start.
Could it be a fluke ( I doubt it )?
I am 50 miles from any kind of service.
If I could get some GOOD advise I would buy parts over the internet and have them shipped to me so I could fix the problem before I head home.
Thanks for any help.

Since the problem happened once, its going to be difficult to diagnos.
Make a good underhood check of your connectors and wiring harnesses..look for the possibility of a harness chaffing on a metal bracket...unfortunately the problem may have to get worse before you find the answer
